1983 Topps Super Veteran – Johnny Bench
Often regarded as the greatest catcher of all-time, Johnny Bench displayed all of the traits of being a dominant baseball player and ultimate competitor.
Bench was : A 2-time MVP Award winner, A Rookie of the Year winner, A 10-time Gold Glove winner, A 14-time All-star, and a member of the Cincinnati Reds’ “Big Red Machine” that won back-to-back championships in 1975 & 76.
In other words, Johnny Bench was an outstanding baseball player and should be regarded as one of the greatest players to ever have played the game of baseball!!!
Super Veteran?? YES!!!

It is only between him and yogi, and yogi’s team outspent everyone. I get sick when piazza is mentioned in the same sentence as bench (hey…I just did it!). Love piazza-best of his era since ivan cheated. but piazza couldn’t play defense. yogi (and I love him-is that too many man crushes in one paragraph?), may have had better numbers, but it seems it was tough for a catcher to pile up monster numbers in bench’s era (especially when he is unarguably the greatest defensive catcher).
how much is a card like this worth?
Sadly, very little. If my memory is correct I paid between 30-40 cents for it.
I have this very card autographed by the man himself.
