Word on the street is that Mark McGwire will be making a return to major league baseball.
OK, actually nobody in South Florida is talking about this. Around the rest of the country, I’m not so sure either…
But the people at Yahoo Sports are reporting that ‘Big Mac’ is set to return to the St. Louis Cardinals in some type of coaching capacity – most likely as a hitting coach or instructor.
While I am not thrilled with how McGwire left the sport and took an unofficial vow of silence about his possible steroid use, I do admit that he was at one time GREAT for the game. Returning to the organization that he brought a ton of attention to during his home run hitting rampage in the late 1990′s is a wise move on his behalf because he brought the city of St. Louis and the Cardinals organization a lot of attention and money.
If this report becomes fact, I may have to pencil in another road trip to Jupiter so I can pay ‘Big Mac’ a visit at Spring Training next February…

I understand why the Cardinals are doing it. It will help keep Larussa, which keeps Duncan and it should go along way in helping resign Holliday, since McGwire was already working with him on hitting.
It also will give McGwire a chance to rub elbows with the same people keeping him out of the HOF. Can he win them over?
Me? I wish he would stay under the rock he’s been hiding under.
He and Sosa both blew it at the hearing in my eyes. Sosa forgot how to speak english and Mac “wasn’t there to talk about the past”.
Baseball has been fine without both of them.

I agree with you 100%. The 1998 home run chase was a slap in the face. The same goes for Bonds.

I’m a loyal Cardinals fan from St.Louis, MO and I have to say that agree with Craig.
I cannot accept any player who is guilty of using performance enhancing drugs – “steroids” in sports. This is simply an attempt to assist McGwire into the HOF. etc………….
One thing about St.Louis fans… “we” will welcome *Mac with open arms and applaud his every move. However if *Barry Bonds became a batting coach for any MLB team we would tear him to shreads. Just how it is. Hopefully Big Mac will be good for the Cardinals and the city of St. Louis, but I’ll never be on board with this decision or any of Larussas decisions.
Hopefully this is Tonys last year as the Cardinals Manager.
Call me crazy but I’d love to see us pick up Willie Randolph as a Skipper.
