Results: Dale Murphy Signing

A few weeks back I read that one of my favorite players from my childhood would be appearing at and signing autographs for anyone in attendance at an upcoming Stockton Ports minor league baseball game.

I acted quickly and sent the team an email.  And within just a few short hours they agreed to help me get a few autographs from Mr. Murphy in exchange for a small donation to the team’s charity.  I was game so as soon as I got home the cards were picked out and the check was signed.

And now, just a little more than two weeks later, the cards are back home with me.

And as with all Dale Murphy autographs, they are beautiful!!!

Check ‘em out:

I told you.  Pretty sweet, huh?

This was an incredible deal and now I have some fantastic looking Dale Murphy autographs in my collection that honors him.

YES!!!

Mike Schmidt 1978 Topps

Mike Schmidt 1978 Topps

Man, does this baseball card scream 1970′s or what??

From the earflap-less batting helmet to the full coif of hair to the Tom Selek mustache to the butterfly-collared shirt.

Each and every element of Mike Schmidt’s appearance is a throw back to one of the most fashionable(during that time) eras in sports history.

I love revisiting cards and times like this!!!  A classic addition for my collection!!!

Orel Hershiser 1994 Upper Deck ‘Electric Court’

Orel Hershiser 1994 Upper Deck ‘Electric Court’

Kind of an odd-looking card.  I don’t quite get what Upper Deck was trying to do with all of the extra ‘stuff’ on the side of the card.

And while UD has been known as being the ground-breaking company that the other major brands mimicked in hopes of maintaining their appeal, I think that this card is a gigantic FAIL!!!

Your thoughts???

Did You Know…

Tony Perez had two seasons in which he collected exactly 32 doubles, 6 triples, and 19 home runs while driving in 91 runs - and he did it in back-to-back seasons with different teams.  Perez posted those totals in 1976 with the Cincinnati Reds and matched them the next season following his trade to the Montreal Expos.

My take – I love numerical brain teasers like this one!!!

Happy Birthday Alex Rodriguez!!!

I cannot believe it, but Alex Rodriguez is turning just 35 years old today.

35 is one of those birthdays in which nothing really happens.  But in the world of baseball it usually means that a decline is in the near future.  Had it not been for A-Rod’s recent hip surgery, we would not even be thinking of his decline as a player.  But to be fair, his numbers this season are not A-Rod-esque and his future output as one of the game’s biggest stars may not be what we were probably all thinking we’d be seeing.

At the age of 34, A-Rod has already amassed 599 home runs, 2,600 hits, and 1,750 RBI.  He should have no problem reaching baseball immortality by eclipsing the 700 home run mark, 3,000 hits plateau, and the 2,000 RBI milestones.

Happy Birthday A-Rod.  I wish you years more of baseball excellence and perfect health!!  Go Get ‘Em!!!
