1990 Headline: Griffey Jr & Sr – First Father/Son Tandem To Go Back-To-Back!!!
I recall watching the highlights of this event on SportCenter 19 years ago and thinking about how cool of an accomplishment this was. And today, almost two decades later, the feelings still remain.
For me, this was one of the most enjoyable baseball records I have been able to witness in my lifetime. And more than anything else, I remember the joy shared by this father and son as they shared a special moment between each other. Luckily, millions of us got to enjoy it too…
And for the 34,000 fans that attended the game in Anaheim, they got to witness it live!!!
In the top of the first inning, each of the Griffeys belted home runs to left/center field. These back-to-back homers put the Mariners out to an early 3-0 lead and made the duo the first ever father/son tandem to hit home runs in consecutive at-bats!!!
