Rod Carew 1977 Topps

Rod Carew 1977 Topps

I’m not certain that I will ever be able to complete this collection of cards that honors Rod Carew’s historic career – his rookie card is very pricey.

But, over the last few weeks, I have been able to score a handful of cards of Carew from the 1970′s.  So, I am getting closer to my goal of nabbing every major-brand card from his playing days.

This one comes from the 1977 Topps issue.

Check it out:

As for the 1977 baseball season, it may have been Carew’s best.  He was the league MVP and led the league in eight offense categories.

Eight?

Yes, eight.

They are:

  1. runs – 128
  2. hits – 239
  3. triples – 16
  4. batting average – .388
  5. on-base percentage – .449
  6. ops – 1.019
  7. ops+ – 178
  8. intentional walks – 15

Pretty valuable indeed!!

  1. This was the kind of a card that, when you bought a pack of these things back then, you went through them hoping to get. No autographs, no game used, no rookie cards, only the best players’ cards were what you wanted to find. Collecting has gone away from that, and I miss it.
