He collected 24/28 first place votes outdistanced Kent Hrbek of the Twins by a great margin.

His numbers from that impressive debut campaign include – 158 hits, .264 batting average, 32 doubles, 5 triples, 28 home runs, 90 runs scored, 93 RBI, and the start of an amazing hitting streak!!!
