Harmon Killebrew 2012 Topps ‘Golden Moments’ – On The Short List
I’ll be the first one to admit that I do not know enough about or cover the career of Harmon Killebrew on this blog enough. I have tried to learn more about him as of late, and am extremely impressed with how respected amongst his peers that he was.
Killebrew played in an era full of superstars and personality. And while he may not have displayed the personality that matched others from his time, he sure did produce like them, sometimes even more so.
This card is from the 2012 Topps “Golden Moments’ subset. The card pays homage to a game played on August 10, 1971. During this game, Killebrew became a member of the ’500 HR Club’. He connected for two home runs on the day, becoming just the 10th member of the elite group. Of the members, only Babe Ruth reached the 500-HR landmark in fewer at-bats.

I grew up a Twins fan during the latter of Rod Carew’s years with the Twins. I missed the Harmon Killebrew era, but he was a hero of my mother and mother-in-law. I met him a couple times at outings in Scottsdale, AZ and he was a very nice man for such a menacing name as Harmin’ Harmon Killebrew. One of my favorite baseball heroes.
