Tom Seaver 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen – Base
With everything that happened last week with the Hall of Fame announcement that no players are going to be in the 2013 class, I have been spending a lot of time reviewing prior year voting.
It is really amazing how things have transpired over the last week. And while I am still not certain if the writers made a huge statement or a huge error, or both, I still feel uneasy about how much power the BWAA has.
But, they did get it right before. And they will get it right again. It may just take some time…
In 1992, Seaver received 425 of the 430 votes cast for Hall of Fame election. His 98.8% vote percentage is the highest of any player in the history of the sport.

Phenomenal pose on a great card. GQ has become one of my favorite sets.
Underdog- Gypsy Queen is fantastic. That and Archives are my favorite current brands.
One of the things I most enjoy about The Gypsy is the older, aged feel to the painterly image, yet it’s executed in a bright, pleasing-to-the-eye, way. I have the 2011 and 2012 sets and now I’m just trying to fill in various inserts, etc.
How long have you been collecting the Archives set?
There seem to be two camps, from what I’m reading in the blogosphere: Archives or Heritage. What are your thoughts on this, i.e., how did you come to chose collecting Archives over Heritage?
Underdog- I like both sets, but don’t collect either. I am a player collector, not a set builder.
I like Archives due to the throwback to prior designs. I only collect the vintage guys in the set though.
As for Heritage, I love the thought but without legends in the set, it is not for me.
I’m a player collector, too. Until I enjoy the sets so much, I start buying lots and boxes and…
I’ve got to get this aspect of my collecting under control! ; )
That shared, I don’t think I have one Archive or Heritage card in my collection. I’ll have to see what Padres I can find…
Underdog- Thankfully, both of those brands can be affordably found in retail stores.
If you like vintage designs, you’ll like these sets.
