1979 Topps – 1978 ‘Leading Firemen’ With Rich Gossage and Rollie Fingers
Why not celebrate a little baseball history on this Monday morning??
This baseball card comes from the 1979 Topps set and it features the top closers in the American and National League from the 1978 baseball season.
Here is the card:
Yes, his famous mustache is missing, but that is Rich ‘Goose’ Gossage on the left and his Hall of Fame counterpart on the right, Rollie Fingers.
Each player led their league in saves at the conclusion of the 1978 baseball season. Gossage paced the AL with 27 while Fingers led all of baseball with 37.
And that is your baseball history lesson for this Monday. Have a nice day.

Yeah, that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout
Anthony- It’s hard to not think of these two when talking about closers from the 70s and 80s…
I love these cards, I’ve got pages of them.
Two of my absolute favorites and on one card. I just had this card out for a photo to post the other day (haven’t made the post yet), and was admiring the modern creator of the position and one of the most deadly and feared at it. Truly a phenomenal card and still easily obtained for the collection.
Underdog- Amazingly, I think that I paid less than $1.00 for the card…
Under a dollar?! Then you got a screaming deal compared to my $1.05! ; )
Doesn’t seem right (thankfully, it is!) we can get so much class packed onto a card for so cheap. Great hobby, good stuff!
