Eddie Murray’s Jersey Hangs Alongside Baltimore Orioles Royalty!!!

The Baltimore Orioles franchise was born in 1954, but its origins go way back to 1901.  The team has seen its share of success and very successful players.

To honor the best players that have worn the team’s uniform, the Orioles have retired their jerseys.

Amazingly for a team that has such a rich history, the list is relatively short.  But on that list are certainly some of baseball’s most accomplished players and manager:

Earl Weaver – #4

Brooks Robinson – #5

Cal Ripken – #8

Frank Robinson – #20

Jim Palmer – #22

Eddie Murray – #33

  1. EDDIE!! :)

He may not have a statue at Camden Yards, but he was one of the truly great Orioles.

The Baltimore Orioles’ origins actually go back even before 1901. (Those 1901 Orioles ultimately became the NY Highlanders, then Yankees. Sigh.) But, don’t discount an even earlier incarnation — the Baltimore Orioles of the 1880s and 1890s, a National League team. The 1890s Orioles were among the greatest baseball teams of all time … and included John McGraw, Wee Willie Keeler, & Hughie Jenkins.

    Thanks for celebrating Eddie!

  2. Egads, I was in an appt with a client about an hour ago and suddenly thought — did I just write on someone’s blog that Eddie DOESN’T had a statue at Camden Yards? Good grief … of course he does. I have a photo of it, in a place of honor on my phone. Well, glad I could fix my brain freeze on your blog!
