Baseball Card Show Review

Baseball Card Show Review

Friends, the first weekend of May is now past us and with it goes another South Florida baseball card show.

I went to the show on Friday night with a few collecting goals in mind.

How did I do?

Well, I am working on two 2012 subsets that I needed just one card from for each to complete the set – sadly, I did not find either of them.  But, I did grab a few 2013 Topps colored parallels for my Miami Marlins master team set so that was a nice surprise.  I also did not walk away with the vintage stuff that I was seeking – there were dealers there with vintage cards, just not what I was wanting to bring home.  I did also find inspiration for the next subset to collect too!!

All in all, it felt as if this show was short a few dealers.  And the crowd was a bit smaller as well.  I’m not sure if the horrible rain we’ve been dealing with kept the buyers and sellers at bay or if it was the full-slate of NBA action that did the trick, but I would say that for the time that I was present, this was the lowest attendance that I have encountered in 2013 at the Friday night show.

I was able to bring home some pretty good cards though.  And I will be showing them off to you all day long.

So, sit back, relax, have a drink and stay tuned into ’30-YOC’ all day.

Enjoy.

Baseball Card Show Review

Anothre great weekend has passed, and another baseball card show has gone with it.

When i got to the show, I noticed that the parking lot was a little lighter than normal.  I was feaeful that the horrible rain we had for the last 24 hours had scared some of the dealers and customers away.

Thankfully, when I walked through the door, my mind was set at ease as the normal number of dealers were present.

As for the cards, I did fairly well.  I spent very little time shopping for vintage stuff this time around – instead I worked on seeking out the modern stuff that I needed for my collection.

Overall, I brought home a bunch of stuff that helps my collection and a few subsets that I am working on.

And as usual, I will spend the entire day showing you what I bought.  So, please stay tuned to ’30-YOC’ all day long as I will be posting cards that I picked up at the show throughout the day.

Thanks for reading.

Baseball Card Show Tonight!!! YES!!!!

Baseball Card Show Tonight!!!  YES!!!!

I am really looking forward to attending tonight’s card show – probably more than any show in the last six months…

The reasons are many, and I hope that they are attainable as well.

Let’s get right into what I am seeking this time.

The shopping list:

  • 2013 Opening Day Marlins Blue parallels
  • 2013 Heritage Giancarlo Stanton variations
  • 2013 Topps Series One Marlins colored parallels
  • 2011 Topps Lineage Marlins – Platinum and Diamond parallels
  • 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen singles
  • 2012 Topps Archives ‘Deckle Edge’ cards for my set
  • 2012 Topps Archives ‘Cloth Stickers’ for my set
  • 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Moonshots’ for my set

card show 2

As you can see, I have a lot of modern cards I am seeking a lot of modern cards this time around.  And while I will not stop my search for vintage goodies, I am just really excited to see if I can complete a few sets I am working on while at the show.

And then there is Gypsy Queen – probably my favorite modern release!!  With the set debuting just this week, I am hopeful that the card show dealers have had enough time to rip through their boxes and cases to put some singles out for sale.  If so, I will find them.  And if I find them, I will bring them home!!  The GQ set is full of every player that I collect – Dawson, Jenkins, Palmer, Morgan, Williams, Henderson, Aaron, and so many more.  And then there are the Marlins cards I need too.

I cannot wait for the show to begin.

And on Monday, I will show off what I found.  My fingers are crossed that I find what I am looking for.

Baseball Card Show Review

Well, another weekend has passed, and another baseball card show has gone with it.

I attended the local card show on Friday night and I did very well with my purchases.  I wasn’t able to bring home too many things on the mental list of goals that I had wanted to accomplish, but I still scored some pretty sweet cardboard.

So, while I did not score any vintage Rollie Fingers cards or 2013 Topps Bryce Harper cards or 2013 Topps Marlins parallels, I did bring home some great cardboard.

Are you ready to see every card that I picked up at the show?

I hope so, because I will be launching posts all day long providing highlights from what has so far been the best baseball card show of the year for ’30-YOC’.

Stay tuned and as always, ‘Thanks for reading’!!!

Baseball Card Show TONIGHT!!!!

Baseball Card Show TONIGHT!!!!

It is Friday.

It is also the 1st of March.

Time to attend the monthly baseball card show!!!

And I am so ready for this show.

With the release of the 2013 Topps Series 1 set, my collecting focus has been re-sharpened.  I am eager to get to the show, and I am ready to shop.

I am going to get back to my original approach – circle the full show without stopping to shop before completing the lap.  I want to see what everyone has to offer before stopping for an extended period of time.  I will make mental notes of who I want to re-visit on my second lap and that is where the shopping will start.

My goals for the show include, but are not limited to:

  • vintage Rollie Fingers cards (getting close to completing this PC)
  • 2013 Topps Marlins – parallel versions
  • 2013 Topps ‘Greats’ – I don’t have any, but want many
  •  bargain bin finds
  • help with my Deckle Edge, Cloth Stickers, and Moonshots subsets
  • 2013 Topps Bryce Harper cards – I have busted wayy too many packs to still have none..
  • trade bait for the great readers of this blog

Wish me luck!!!

And get ready for a full recap of the card show and posts featuring all of my purchases that will launch all day long on Monday!!!

Have a great weekend!!!

Baseball Card Show Review

Another weekend has passed us by, and another baseball card show too.

This was the first show I attended since December, 2012 and taking the 1-month break served me well.  I witnessed a few new dealers, and a nice assortment of new baseball cards to sift through.

I did not have any specific goals for the show, but was very interested to see what 2013 Topps cards I could find.  Surprisingly, there was not as much as I expected – 2 guys selling singles, and 1 guy selling hobby and jumbo boxes.  I did buy a bunch of singles, but only one if for myself with the rest going to other readers of the blog that I know are collecting certain players or teams.

As for the rest of my show experience, I spent a lot of time at the bargain bins pulling out cards that make great additions to the player collections and subsets that I am working on.

And, I found a card that is on my ‘Top Ten Most Wanted Cards’ list.  I had to haggle for a better price, but I ended up buying it!  And I am very happy about that.

So, stay tuned to ’30-YOC’ all day long today as I will unveil each and every card that I purchased at the show right here.

Have a great day!!

BASEBALL CARD SHOW TONIGHT!!!!

BASEBALL CARD SHOW TONIGHT!!!!

That’s right, it is February 1, and the first Friday of the month.

And for me, that means that the local card show is upon us.  I was unable to attend the January show, so it has been two months since I have bought single baseball cards in person.

But that all changes tonight, and I am raring to go!!!

I don’t have a ton of goals for the show.  I want to take my time and see if any new dealers are going to be there.  I also am interested in seeing what some of the singles are selling for from the 2013 Topps Series 1 that hit the shelves just the other day.  There are a lot of subsets in the 2013 Topps set that interest me and I would love to see them in person!!

It should be a lot of fun.

And stay tuned for a full report on Monday as well as my customary series of ‘Card Show Purchases’ that will run throughout the day.

Have a great weekend, everyone!!!

Baseball Card Show Review – And It Is Not Pretty…

Baseball Card Show Review – And It Is Not Pretty…

I attended the December baseball card show on Friday.  Yes, Friday was technically in November, but the weekend is classified as December and that is when the show officially takes place.

When I walked into the show, I was very surprised by the lack of dealer tables that were set up.  Yes, the ‘main’ show is on Saturday, but I had been used to seeing 15-20 dealers set up on Friday.  At this show, there was no more than 12.  Many are the guys that I have become accustomed to seeing, and even a few that I have become friendly with.  I did not see any ‘new blood’ with any of the dealers that were set up at the Friday show.

I also had a very hard time finding anything that I was specifically seeking.  Very few affordable vintage dealers.  I did not see anyone with the new 2012 Panini Cooperstown cards either.

Ultimately, I spent almost 90 minutes at the show, and less than $10 left my pocket.  All of my purchases were from one dealer, and each and every card came from his $0.10 bargain boxes.

Did I score some good cards, sure!  Did I score some great cards, maybe!  I was just hoping for some more variety and some new dealer tables to shop.

Ultimately, I am still happy that I went to the show.  While I may not have filled any ‘needs’ for my collection this time around, I did pick up some great bargains.  There is NO amount of internet shopping that will replace the enjoyment that I get from rifling through boxes of cards.

Also, keep in mind as I unveil my purchases to you that each and every card that you will see cost me just one dime.

I already know that I will not be attending the show in January.  This weekend’s show is NOT the reason for that announcement.  I have plans that have been set for a few months now and knew that I would be out of town during the weekend of the new year.

Maybe the shows will turn around in 2013.  Maybe I need to find a way to get to the Saturday show and see what the difference is.  Time will tell…

In the meantime, stay tuned to ’30-YOC’ all day long as I will show off my haul from the show.  If you are a fan of the stars from the 1980s and 1990s, you will surely find something you will like.

Thanks for reading.

Baseball Card Show Tonight!!!

Baseball Card Show Tonight!!!

As you are reading this, I am either on my way to, attending, or coming home from what we be the last baseball card show that I attend in 2012.  Yes, the monthly card show’s 2012 calendar is set to expire after this weekend.

And my fingers are crossed that this show is better than the one I attended last month.  While I was still able to walk away with some cool stuff at the show last month, the number of dealers was drastically lower than what I was used to and I would like to see the last show of the year end on a good note!

As for what I am seeking out at this card show, I have a things that I would like to find:

  • cards on my ‘Top Ten Want List’
  • vintage cards – mid 1970′s
  • Hank Aaron modern cards
  • new player collection options
  • inspiration for my 2013 collecting goals

My fingers are crossed that this show goes well.  On Monday, I will show off my entire haul for you, so please stay tuned for that.

Have a nice weekend!

Baseball Card Show Review

Well friends, another baseball card show has come and gone.  And this collector has some new cards in his collection as a result.

The show was much smaller this month than the prior month, and I am not sure why.  The attendance level was pretty much the same size, but I would estimate that the decrease of dealer tables was right around 25%.

Still, I scored a nice lot of cards out of ten and fifty cent bargain bins.  And my final purchase was absolutely my greatest one!

Check back with ’30-YOC’ all day long; I will show off my haul from the card show.  And I think that there is something in there for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks for reading.
