Andre Dawson 2014 Topps Tier 1 Game-Used Jersey Relic Card – Cubby Blue!!

Andre Dawson 2014 Topps Tier 1 Game-Used Jersey Relic Card – Cubby Blue!!

Last week I showed you the first card I bought of Andre Dawson from the 2014 Topps Tier 1 set.

That card featured a White piece of jersey material with a sweet Royal Blue pinstripe accent running vertically through it.

Tonight, I take it a step further as I have another one to show off.

This time around, there is no pinstripe.  Sorry.

But, there is this…

That’s right – an All-Blue jersey swatch.  And it’s not just any shade of Blue, it is ‘Cubby Blue’.  And it looks fantastic.

The card is serial numbered as 133/399 and it is a great complementary piece to the card I featured last week.

It’s been a while since I picked up two relic cards from the same release of Andre.  It’s nice to have been able to affordably grab these for my collection as I have seen Tier 1 relics sell for quite a bit more in the past…

Andre Dawson 2014 Topps Tier 1 Game-Used Jersey Relic Card – SWEET!!!

Andre Dawson 2014 Topps Tier 1 Game-Used Jersey Relic Card – SWEET!!!

I cannot believe that I was able to snag this card for as low of a price as I did.  And with no competition too!

The Topps Tier 1 set is a high-end product that offers relic and autographed baseball cards of both modern and royalty in the baseball world.  Boxes of this product are expensive, and they only offer 8 cards per box.  But, hits are guaranteed.  Still, I prefer to shop for singles from the in the secondary market.

And when the set dropped, I immediately started watching the relic cards of Andre Dawson to see how the would be priced and sold to see if adding one to my collection would be a possibility.

And finally, after a few weeks of watching and waiting, I nailed it!!

I brought home this beauty for less than $5.00 – and that includes my shipping fees.

The card is serial numbered as 233/399 and as you can see in the above scan, it features a very nice piece of Cubs jersey that is punctuated by a Royal Blue, Cubs pinstripe running vertically.

I’m digging this one.  A great addition to my Dawson Game-Used collection.  Yeah buddy!

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini “America’s Pastime” Dual-Game-Used Relic Card

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini “America’s Pastime” Dual-Game-Used Relic Card

I’m not a huge fan of many of the Panini recent products.  Sure, the loss of the ability to include the MLB logos and team names hurts, but I also don’t think that they’ve really brought us anything ‘super special’ either.

Of the releases, Hometown Heroes is by far my favorite.  I like the theme and the colors, and the checklists offered up a nice assortment of older and current players.

I really did not care for this year’s ‘America’s Pastime’ release from Panini.  I found it to be very bland with no life.

But, the name of my favorite player was included in the checklist so I had to give it a little attention.

S0, I bought this:

This card is from the ‘Combo Swatches’ set and it is serial numbered as 30/49.  And while I really like the large pieces of jersey used on the card, I am more than a little bored with the rest as Panini did very little to add something fun to look at with this one…

Next time?  I’m not so sure…

Adding Some More Depth To My ‘Ultimate Jenkins’ Tribute

Adding Some More Depth To My ‘Ultimate Jenkins‘ Tribute

While organizing pictures for the ’10′ post I did the other night that showcased the 10 signed Fergie Jenkins baseballs in my collection, I noticed some obvious omissions on my ‘Ultimate Jenkins‘ page.

So, I set aside some time to comb through that entire page with the goal of bulking it up and adding more that honors the great career of my favorite pitcher of all-time.

The results?  A few more photos!

Here they are:

Fergie Jenkins Game-Used Relic Cards

JENKINS GU CARDS

Fergie Jenkins IP/TTM Signed Cards

JENKINS AUTO CARDS

Fergie Jenkins Certified Autographed Cards

JENKINS CERT AUTO CARDS

Sweet!

All great stuff, and all stuff that deserves to be a part of the newly refreshed ‘Ultimate Jenkins’ page.

If you haven’t checked it out in a while, come see what you are missing!!!

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini America’s Pastime ‘Career Numbers’

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini America’s Pastime ‘Career Numbers’

Serial numbered as 88/125, this is the second card of Andre Dawson that I have scored from this set.

The first one I nabbed featured just a solid White piece of Jersey.  This one here offers up a nice Cubby Blue pinstripe as the highlight.

Have a look:

I know that there are more versions of these out there – definitely one with a Red swatch and one with a solid Blue swatch.  I plan on hunting both of them down!!

Off To A Hot Start, I Wanted To Grab A Really Nice Jose Fernandez Card….

Off To A Hot Start, I Wanted To Grab A Really Nice Jose Fernandez Card….

I’ve been wanting to ‘pull the trigger’ on a premium Jose Fernandez card before the season started and more attention came his way.  Sadly, I did not make it a priority.

And his certified autographed cards are selling, and for a lot more money than I am will to dish out.

Still, I shopped.

And shopped.

And shopped some more.

And finally, I landed Jose’s card from the 2014 Topps ‘The Future Is Now’ Relic Set.  The card is very nice, and I am happy that I was able to add it to my collection while not sacrificing too much of my PayPal balance in the process.

The card is serial numbered to just 99 copies with mine being 93/99.

Have a look:

I’m going to have to try for some more now.  This guys is Red-Hot.

Who knows, maybe a nice in-person autograph will eventually land in my collection soon…  Fingers crossed.

Andre Dawson 2005 Upper Deck Artifacts Game-Used Jersey Relic Card

Andre Dawson 2005 Upper Deck Artifacts Game-Used Jersey Relic Card

I’m not sure how I overlooked this card for as long as I did, but I always thought that I had it in my collection.

Yes, my Andre Dawson relic collection has more than 100 cards in it, but I maintain a pretty well-organized checklist of the cards I own, but I must have just missed this one altogether.

It wasn’t until the card you see below came across Ebay that I checked my list of cards to see if I did.  The reason I went back?  I was not sure the one I owned was serial numbered – and if it was not, than this would be another unique card for my collection.  So, I checked, and the card was not listed.  Then I went to the box that holds my Dawson relic cards (in order by year and brand, of course) and it was not there either.

So, I bought it!  Plain and simple.  And now I have a new relic card of Andre Dawson in my collection.  And it is serial numbered as 133/325.

SWEET!!!

Andre Dawson 2010 Panini Century ‘Postcards’ Certified Autograph & 2-Color Jersey Relic

Andre Dawson 2010 Panini Century ‘Postcards’ Certified Autograph & 2-Color Jersey Relic

I have never been a fan of this set, but when the card features your favorite player, you tend to bend the rules a bit.

And this time around, I am happy that I did just that.

Not only does this card feature a 2-tone swatch of game-used jersey worn by Andre Dawson, but it is perfectly completed with his gorgeous signature.

Have a look:

The card is serial numbered to just 50 copies.  Mine is #24/50.

I’m happy to have this one in my collection now.   And I am just as happy to be able to move on to the next – I’ll try for a better looking card the next time around…

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini America’s Pastime ‘Career Numbers’ Game-Used Jersey Card

Andre Dawson 2013 Panini America’s Pastime ‘Career Numbers’ Game-Used Jersey Card

While the execution may not be flawless, the theme is neat.

This card is from the ‘Career Numbers’ subset that is a part of the 2013 Panini America’s Pastime set.

This card of Andre Dawson pays homage to his 438 career home runs.  I like the way that Panini threw the ’438′ onto what looks like flip cards.

There were 125 copies made of this card with the White jersey swatch.  Mine is serial numbered as 124/125.

Have a look:

img039

One of the things that I think could make this card better would have been if the card was serial numbered to 438 copies.

I do know that there are other versions of this card out there – with differing colors of jersey chunks.  Hopefully, in time, I can add another one or two to my collection.

Time will tell…

2012 Topps Timeless Talents Dual-Game-Used Relic Card With Andre Dawson & Justin Upton

2012 Topps Timeless Talents Dual-Game-Used Relic Card With Andre Dawson & Justin Upton

I’d been passively shopping for this card for part of two years.

At first, the card was drawing in a lot of high bidders – some paying more than $20 for the card.

I waited it all out – and I just kept my search going and my faith in the fact that I should be able to find one in my price range over time.

Well, that patience paid off as I finally landed the card for less than $8.00.

The card comes from the 2012 Topps ‘Timeless Talents’ subset.  It is a dual-game-used relic card that features 2 piece of jersey worn by Andre Dawson and 2 pieces of wood from a game-used Justin Upton bat.

The card is serial numbered to just 50 copies.  Mine is #49/50.

Have a look:

img022

I like this card a lot.  I have had the base version in my Dawson collection since it was released back in 2012.  The style is neat and clean, and while both hitters are right handed, I like how Topps chose two images of the guys with their bats in the position that they are – for me, it draws my eye to the center of the card – and all of those relics.

A fantastic addition to my ‘Ultimate Dawson’ collection!!  YES!!!
