Andre Dawson 2006 Upper Deck SP ‘Legendary Materials’ Game-Used Jersey Card – SILVER!!!

Andre Dawson 2006 Upper Deck SP ‘Legendary Materials’ Game-Used Jersey Card – SILVER!!!

This one came at me a bit by surprise.  But I am not complaining about that…

I was shopping for cards on Ebay, as I am won to do, and I was just skimming through my list of ‘saved searches’ when I came up the search ‘Andre Dawson Silver’.  This search term can result in a bunch of different things based on what may be listed at the time of the search, but with the default of ‘Newly Listed’ set, this card was the first thing that appeared.

So, I saved it.  Eventually bid on it.  And ultimately won it!

Have a look:

DAWSON GU SILVER

The card is from the 2006 Upper Deck SP Legendary Materials set.  It is the ‘Silver’ version of the relic card and is serial numbered as 65/199.

The card features a great, vintage image of Dawson while with the Expos and the Silver framing really allows for the Powder Blue of Andre’s uniform to stand out nicely.

A great addition to my Dawson collection, and a great complement to my Bronze version of the same card!!

Jim Palmer 2012 Topps ‘Mound Dominance’ Game-Used Relic Card – SWEET!!!

Jim Palmer 2012 Topps ‘Mound Dominance’ Game-Used Relic Card – SWEET!!!

I pieced together the 2012 Topps ‘Mound Dominance’ subset last year.  I found it to be a nice and easy set to go after, and I really like the theme and design of the cards.  My main issue with the set was that the common thread of the players was not there – some of the events celebrated were no-hitters, some were post-season games, near-perfect games, etc.

While putting that set together, I found that the cards were also available with Game-Used relics.

And while the prospect of putting together the relic set crossed my mind, the idea of adding a relic card of Armando Gallaraga and Phil Niekro to my collection did not sound exciting.

Instead, I went after the lone guy that I feverishly collect – Mr. Jim Palmer.

The card is serial numbered as 16/50, and it features a Solid Black chunk of Palmer’s jersey.

Andre Dawson 2011 Topps Marquee ‘Titanic Threads’ Jumbo-Jersey Relic!!!

Andre Dawson 2011 Topps Marquee ‘Titanic Threads’ Jumbo-Jersey Relic!!!

Ever since I first laid eyes on this card back in 2011, I wanted one for my collection.

But, since it was part of a fairly expensive and somewhat low-distribution set, not too many of them were found at acceptable prices.  Couple that with the fact that the card is serial numbered to just 99 copies and I had a real hunt on my hands.

Since being released, I have probably seen 12-15 of these cards appear on Ebay.  They all sell – and they all sell for a lot more than a normal relic card that has just 99 copies.

Why?

Well, it is all because of the relic – IT IS HUGE!!!

Have a look:

DAWSON TITANIC THREADS

I told you.  And I probably did not describe it properly either – the relic is TITANIC IN SIZE!!!

And I am so very proud to finally have one in my collection.  My patience paid off on this one too – Yes, I paid a decent amount for it but nothing close to what it was going for when it was released in 2011.

Mine is serial numbered as 18/99 and it features the largest piece of jersey relic on a single card in my collection thus far.

YES!!!

Fergie Jenkins 2005 Leaf Limited ‘Limited Legends’ Game-Used Jersey Relic Card – #’d To 31

Fergie Jenkins 2005 Leaf Limited ‘Limited Legends’ Game-Used Jersey Relic Card – #’d To 31

I’m on a bit of a ‘Hot Streak’ when it comes to landing some rare Fergie Jenkins cards for my collection.

I’m not sure of the reason for all of this luck, but I do hope that it does not end any time soon as I am hauling in some great beauties for my player collection that honors Fergie’s magnificent career.

My latest score comes from the 2005 Leaf Limited set.  The card is part of the ‘Limited Legends’ subset and features a nice piece of jersey framed in the shape of Fergie’s jersey number – #31.

The card is also serial numbered to just 31 copies so that it pretty neat too.

Looks nice, huh??

The card is a little dark in the scan, but it is much brighter in person.  Where you are seeing dark Brown, it is actually a vibrant Gold.

Jim Palmer 2013 Topps Retail Exclusive Manufactured Rookie Card Patch – NICE!!!

Jim Palmer 2013 Topps Retail Exclusive Manufactured Rookie Card Patch – NICE!!!

As soon as I saw this card, I knew that I was going to have to have one for my collection.

My first attempt was purchasing the retail blaster that these special commemorative cards were inserted into.  Sadly, that did not go as planned so I had to settle for ‘Plan B’ and find one on the web for a suitable price.

At first, they were selling for much more than I would pay, especially when I could still pull one from a box and nab a bunch of extra cards as well in a blast for $19.99.

So, I waited.  And I watched them sell day by day, week by week, and eventually month by month.  And as the months passed. the prices started to drop.  and pretty soon more and more were going unsold.

And finally, I was able to bring one home at a great price!!

And now I have my Jim Palmer 2013 Topps Manufactured  Rookie Card Patch!!!

Patience pays off and this is a great addition to my Palmer collection!

Andre 2005 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia ‘Tools Of The Trade’ 4-Piece Game-Used Relic Card!!!!

Andre 2005 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia ‘Tools Of The Trade’ 4-Piece Game-Used Relic Card!!!!

With more than 1,070 unique card of Andre Dawson in my collection, it is hard to believe that this is my first relic card that offers four pieces of memorabilia in the same card.

But it does, and I am thrilled to call it mine!!!

The card comes from the 2005 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia set tagged as ‘Tools Of The Trade’.  If you’ve been a reader of ’30-YOC’ for the last few years, you know that I really like this set – the design is perfect, and the graphics really work well.

I have a lot of cards of Andre Dawson from this set, but there are still a lot more to go after.  Hopefully in time, I can nab a few more.

But I am more than content with this new addition to my collection.

The card is serial numbered as 20/25 and it features pieces of jersey, bat, jersey, and pants.

Fergie Jenkins 2005 Upper Deck Hall Of Fame ‘Essential Enshrinement’ Certified Autograph & Patch Card – Numbered To 5

Fergie Jenkins 2005 Upper Deck Hall Of Fame ‘Essential Enshrinement’ Certified Autograph & Patch Card – Numbered To 5

Friends, I have scored my best Fergie Jenkins autograph card to date!!!!

This card comes from the 2005 Upper Deck Hall Of Fame ‘Essential Enshrinement’ set and features a sweet Fergie Jenkins signature.

It also features a 2-color patch of Light Blue and Cubbie Blue!!  This is my first autographed baseball card of Jenkins that features a jersey relic.  You could also call it my first relic card that features a signature too..

No matter how you slice it or dice it, this card is sweet!!

There is nothing about this card that I do not like.  From the great image to the Golden accents to the wood-grain background – I like it all!!!

And the fact that this card is serial numbered as 1/5 certainly does not hurt either…

Enjoy.  :)

Johnny Bench 2003 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Souvenir Logo Patch

Johnny Bench 2003 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Souvenir Logo Patch

I would consider myself a fan of Johnny Bench.  I have always admired his dedication to the game, and I like the fact that he stayed loyal to his team while the era of free agency took hold in the early 1980′s.

This is the third card that I picked up from one seller a few weeks ago on Ebay.  I’ve showcased the other two (Joe Morgan and Ernie Banks) in other posts, so now it is time to give a little spotlight to Mr. Bench.

Check out the card:

GU BENCH

While I don’t currently have the extensive collection of Johnny Bench baseball cards that I seek, I have to say that this is the first time I have ever seen a card of him while playing defense at another position other than catcher.

Yes, I knew he was used as a ‘roaver’ at times to keep his bat in the line-up but give his knees a rest from catching.

But, I have never seen a card showing him without his catcher’s mitt!!!

My keen eye tells me that this photo of him was taken while playing third base.  Did you know that Bench played in 195 games, over eight seasons, while manning ‘The Hot Corner’???

Very cool – and unique too!!!

Fergie Jenkins 2013 Topps Series 1 Cy Young Award Winner Commemorative Card

Fergie Jenkins 2013 Topps Series 1 Cy Young Award Winner Commemorative Card

This card is by far the thickest baseball card in my collection.  I have no clue how I am going to be able to store this thing…

It comes from the 2013 Topps Series One release, and is part of the Cy Young Award Winner Commemorative set.

The card celebrates Fergie winning the award in the National League in 1971, and that shiny metal emblem that you see on the right-side of the card is pretty neat and very heavy.  The emblem is a replica of a real Cy Young Award, and was done very well by Topps.

This card is a fantastic addition to my collection.   And if you are a collector of Fergie Jenkins, a must-have as well!!!

Joe Morgan 2003 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Chicago Cubs Manufactured Patch Card

Joe Morgan 2003 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Chicago Cubs Manufactured Patch Card

The Houston Astros have been getting a lot of attention as of late…

New team colors and logo…

New league – AL West…

Lowest payroll in baseball…

When I saw this card of Joe Morgan, there was no way that I was not going to make an attempt to bring it home.  The card features a very similar logo to what the 2013 Houston Astros will be wearing, and it takes me back the beginning of the career of one of my favorite players of all-time!!

Couple all of that with a sweet looking baseball card, a manufactured Astros patch, and a hand numbered serial number of 81/350, and you have a really, really nice looking baseball card!!!

Gotta Love It!!!!
