It is so nice to see that Fergie Jenkins made it into a few 2013 Topps sets so far this year.  It gives me the chance to build up my collection a bit while also showcases him to new collectors that may not know his great history.

This card is from the 2013 Topps Tribute set; it is the base card from the set.

Time for me to start going after the colored parallel versions now.

I’m on a bit of a ‘Hot Streak’ when it comes to landing some rare Fergie Jenkins cards for my collection.

I’m not sure of the reason for all of this luck, but I do hope that it does not end any time soon as I am hauling in some great beauties for my player collection that honors Fergie’s magnificent career.

My latest score comes from the 2005 Leaf Limited set.  The card is part of the ‘Limited Legends’ subset and features a nice piece of jersey framed in the shape of Fergie’s jersey number – #31.

The card is also serial numbered to just 31 copies so that it pretty neat too.

Looks nice, huh??

The card is a little dark in the scan, but it is much brighter in person.  Where you are seeing dark Brown, it is actually a vibrant Gold.

It has been a little bit of a slow-going as I try to take my Fergie Jenkins player collection to the next level.

For the most part, I have all of his cards from his playing days.  And I am getting closer and closer to nabbing all of the modern stuff as well.  Staying on top of new releases certainly helps – and the new Gypsy Queen and Tribute issues will give me some new goals to go after in the very near future.

So, that leaves me with autographed cards, relic cards, and low-numbered cards.

And this one counts!!  Serial numbered as 38/50, this card comes from the 2005 Upper Deck Hall of Fame Baseball set tagged as ‘Hall Worthy’.

The card is a beauty!!  And that sweet Golden logo in the center sets it off nicely.

I am in full ‘Chase Mode’ as I go after the full spectrum of cards of Fergie Jenkins from this year’s Gypsy Queen release.

This is Fergie’s first year in the set, and I am going after him with full gusto!!!

I may not be able to snag a wood or leather bordered card, but I should be able to bring home the rest of them.

2002 Donruss Elite – ‘Passing The Torch’ With Fergie Jenkins & Mark Prior

A few weeks ago, I showed off the base card of Fergie Jenkins from this 2002 Donruss set. 

And after doing a little more research and shopping, I discovered that the the card had another version – and a unique one at that!

The card is serial numbered as 49/500 and it features two legendary Chicago Cubs hurlers – Hall of Famer, Fergie Jenkins & Mark Prior.

While Jenkins can easily be regarded as the best pitcher in franchise history, Mark Prior will certainly go down as one of the most talented with an asterisk for ‘What Could Have Been’.

It’s nice to see both players featured on the same card.

I like it.  The whole ‘Passing The Torch’ theme is pretty neat.  And while the bar that Jenkins set for Cubs starting pitchers has yet to be challenged or overtaken by any pitcher for the Cubs to this point, Prior appeared to have the stuff needed to take a shot at it.  Too bad that injuries derailed his career after just four full seasons…

And since I don’t have a Mark Prior collection, I will happily add this card to my collection that honors my favorite pitcher of all-time, Ferguson Arthur Jenkins!!

1965 HEADLINE: Ferguson Jenkins Notches First Win As A Cub & Connects For Home Run!!!

On this day in 1965, Fergie Jenkins made his second start for the Cubs.  The team was at home to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in front of a crowd of just 6,974 fans.

The ones that were at the ballpark, were in for a treat!!

Fergie took over in relief during the third inning of the game for Bob Hendley.  He then threw five plus innings allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out three batters.  During that stretch, the Cubs scored two run to take a lead and secure victory. 

And it was Fergie Jenkins that supplied the offense!!!  Jenkins went 2-for-3 on the day including a 2-run home run that would account for all of the runs needed to secure victory for the Cubs and Fergie.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Jenkins!!!

Friends, I have scored my best Fergie Jenkins autograph card to date!!!!

This card comes from the 2005 Upper Deck Hall Of Fame ‘Essential Enshrinement’ set and features a sweet Fergie Jenkins signature.

It also features a 2-color patch of Light Blue and Cubbie Blue!!  This is my first autographed baseball card of Jenkins that features a jersey relic.  You could also call it my first relic card that features a signature too..

No matter how you slice it or dice it, this card is sweet!!

There is nothing about this card that I do not like.  From the great image to the Golden accents to the wood-grain background – I like it all!!!

And the fact that this card is serial numbered as 1/5 certainly does not hurt either…

I’m really happy that I waited to but my singles at the card show before turning to Ebay to find them.

At the show, this card cost me $0.25.  On Ebay, I would have paid at least $1.99.

As for the card, I was thrilled to find Mr. Jenkins in the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen checklist.  This is his first appearance in the set, and it gives me some big opportunities to add a nice stack of cards of Fergie to my collection.

As for the card, it is nice – but, I really wish that Topps chose an action shot of him for his GQ debut!!!

Maybe next year, they will give us an action shot…

Adding new baseball cards of Fergie Jenkins to the collection is getting harder and harder, especially while trying to stick to a budget and shop wisely.

For the most part, I have a majority of the base cards issued of Fergie from both his playing days and post-playing days.

It’s the relics, autos, and serial numbered cards that I need most – and that almost always comes with a higher price tag.

Thankfully, I still find a card every once in a while that keeps pushing my collection to the next level.

That is the case for this 2002 Donruss Elite ‘Passing The Torch’ card that I picked up last week.  The card is serial numbered as 558/1000.

And it is so nice that I have to show off both the front and the back!

It’s always exciting for me to bring home signed baseball cards of my favorite baseball players.

And for me, I am not really picky as to which kind of autograph it is – sticker, on-card, in-person, through the mail – whatever, just as long as it is nice, clean, and bold!!

I recently ‘stole’ this item off of Ebay.  I paid well under what others had been selling for and it was at a price that worked with my budget.

The card is from the 1982 Topps set.  And as you can see with the hand-numbering, there were 200 of them pulled for Fergie Jenkins to sign.  The card is serial numbered as 66, and the back features a Topps hologram confirming the legitimacy of the autograph.
