Ticket Stub #4 – Braves vs Cubs – May 30, 1989

 Ticket Stub #4 – Braves vs Cubs – May 30, 1989

This game was attended during a family vacation to Atlanta and the surrounding areas.  Since Florida did not have a professional baseball team at the time, I was a fan of both the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs since I was able to watch quite a few of their games on WWOR and WTBS on cable.

To be able to see both teams in 1 game was pretty special; the only thing missing for me was Andre Dawson.

Chicago Cubs vs Atlanta Braves – Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.  Cubs win 3-2.

The highlights of this game included seeing Greg Maddux pitch in person.  Little did we know back then, that we were seeing one of the greatest pitchers from our generation that would soon join the Braves and become a baseball superstar and multiple time Cy Young award winner.  For the Cubs, Mark Grace went 2-for-4 while batting clean-up.  And for the Braves, Andres Thomas hit a home run for the home team.

This was also the year that I moved from South Florida to the Chicago suburbs.  Who would have thought that I got to see the NL East champions?  Not me.  The Cubs were good, and they really put togther a very impressive season that year.

Hall of Fame players seen: 1 – Ryne Sandberg.  Greg Maddux will surely get in making this list 2 total hall of famers in this game.
