1982 Topps Reggie Jackson

 1982 Topps Reggie Jackson

What can I say about this card?  It is certainly not the most flattering picture I have ever seen of Reggie Jackson.  Whenever I see a card like this, I always wonder how this was the shot that the baseball card company thought was the best one to use for their product.  Of the hundreds if not thousands of pictures that had been taken of Reggie in a New York Yankees uniform, this was their choice??

Oh, and nice glasses Reggie…

Possibly The Greatest Baseball Card Ever Invented…

Where do I even start with this?  To have my 2 favorite players on 1 card is special.  To have my 2 favorite players on one card commemorating their Rookie of the Year achievements is even more special.

But to have my 2 favorite players on 1 card commemorating their ROY awards and autographed by both superstars leaves me speechless.

I found this card on Ebay last week and got it in the mail last night when I got home.  Without a doubt, this is the prize of my collection.  The price of this card was relatively inexpensive(I paid just $15.00) for a dual-signed card.  The money is not the issue for this one though…  Would I have paid more?  Of course!!  Was I thrilled to get it for just $15.00??  Of course!!

The only problem I have is whether I should keep this beauty with my Billy Williams collection or my Andre Dawson collection…  serious problems huh???

Happy Anniversary Don Larsen!!!

On this day in 1956, you pitched a ‘Perfect Game’ during game 5 of the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers.  This is the only time any pitcher has pitched a perfect game or no-hitter during the playoffs in baseball history.

In this game, Larsen retired 27 Dodger batters while only needing 97 total pitches.  Of the 27 batters he faced, only 1 was able to get to a count of ball 3 against Larsen.

In what may very well be the most popular World Series moment in baseball history, after Larsen recorded out #27, his catcher Yogi Berra leaped into his arms and was soon swarmed by all of his teammates.

Watch this clip, it’s only 51 seconds long and captures the final out of Larsen’s perfect game back in 1956.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Larsen!!!

Ticket Stub #5 – White Sox vs. Angels – 9/17/1989

Ticket Stub #5 – White Sox vs. Angels – 9/17/1989

This was the first baseball game I attended after my family moved from South Florida to Chicago in the summer of 1989.  This game was held at the Original Comiskey Park.

California Angels 6 – Chicago White Sox 3

I have 2 vivid memories from this game and neither had to do with the action on the field.  (1) The New Comiskey Park was being built right across the street so prior to the game starting, we walked the entire concourse checking out all of the old pictures and displays that were up honoring the 80 years worth of baseball played at the Original Comiskey Park.  (2) Prior to the game, all kids were invited to get their pictures taken with White Sox Rookie Robin Ventura.  Ventura was not a star yet, but he quickly became my favorite White Sox player once he took over as the full-time starter in Chicago.

I have searched and searched but have been unable to find that picture of me and Ventura…
