Countdown To 2010 – 24 Dawsons In 24 Hours – Card #19

Countdown To 2010 – 24 Dawsons In 24 Hours – Card #19

Andre Dawson 2004 Leaf Limited

I’m not sure what to make of this one.  Having a serial number of 95/499, I like the card, but I don’t love the card.

For me, the card is just too dull.  With such dark, and boring color choices overtaking the background, the card has very little life to it.

It’s cool to see Andre in his Grey Cubs uniform, I just wish that Leaf would have put a little more effort into this one…

Andre Dawson 2005 Topps Fan Favorites

A true beauty here!!  While I have very little love for the 1990 Topps set, the Cubs’ cards looked great with their Red, White, and Blue themed borders.

With their Fan Favorites sets issued during the mid-2000’s, Topps did a fine job in offering the player collector more cards of their favorite players to go after.  And while making these new ones slightly more modern, this one still feels like a 1990 Topps card to me.

A great addition to my Andre Dawson player collection!!

Andre Dawson 1998 Pinnacle Summit

I’m not sure what to make of this card.  Issued by Pinnacle in 1998, the card came out 1 year after Dawson retired from playing professional baseball.

At first glance, the card reminds me of one of those large cardboard cut-outs you see at a fair that couples get their pictures taken inside of.  With the jagged oval encircling Andre, this one reminds me of Jaws!!

Andre Dawson 2005 Donruss Throwback Threads – Century Stars

With the title ‘Century Stars’, my expectation were very high – and they were not met!!

While I am excited that Donruss thought highly enough of Andre to put him into this subset, I expected quite a bit more from a set that sounds like it features the greatest ball players in the sport.

Donruss produced so  many sets and subsets in 2004 and 2005 that I am not surprised that they ran out of ideas for these cards.  I just wish that it wasn’t ‘Century Stars’ that had to suffer!!

Andre Dawson National League All-Star Credit Card

I know very little about this card.  It was made by a company called PermaGraphics and it features the same photo that Topps used of Andre in their 1981 base issue.  The back of the card looks more like a credit card than baseball card.  It’s made of hard plastic and is thicker than you average baseball card.

If anyone knows more about this card or brand, please share the knowledge.

Thanks!!

The back even has a place to capture the player’s signature.

Andre Dawson 2005 Topps Finest

This card is busy, busy, busy!!!  Numbered 140/399, I heard that the Topps employee responsible for printing these cards back 2005 is still suffering headaches and dizzy spells from staring at the card for too long.

No wonder that they halted production at just 399 copies!!!

Andre Dawson 2001 Topps – ‘Who Would Have Thought’

A very cool design option that never grows old – Before & After.

In 2001, Topps put the pedal to the metal regarding sets and subsets.  This one is titled ‘Who Would Have Thought’ and it features 2 images of Andre Dawson – 1 from his days playing in Montreal and the other from his time with the Cubs.

I love the card’s concept but I personally would have chosen 2 photos that were better linked.  Still though – great job by Topps on this one!!!

Andre Dawson 1991 Classic

Back in the day, Classic was that brand that kind of just hung around.  Never found in Beckett, its cards were kind of a mystery to me so I stayed away.

This 1991 base card of Andre is a spectacular one!!  A great image of ‘The Hawk’ in action at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field!!

While Classic’s design is limited at best, they used a great picture on this card and for that reason alone it becomes an instant ‘Classic’ in my collection.

Andre Dawson 2002 Topps American Pie – American Sluggers

Man the name of this card is so much better than the end result…

Baseball and Pie are 2 American classics.  Unfortunately this design is a bomb in my opinion.  Oversaturated with stars ad stripes, Topps did waaaayyyy too much with this one!!!

And what a terrible photo of Andre too…

Pie, Yes.  Topps American Pie, No Thanks!!!

Andre Dawson 1993 Diamond Marks Bookmark

Pretty neat oddball, huh??  I found 2 Andre Dawson bookmarks at the last baseball card show I attended.  And for just 1 quarter a piece, I grabbed both of them.

This is Bookmark #1 – made by a company called Diamond Marks and was produced in 1993 when Andre was a member of the Boston Red Sox!!

The bookmark offers a plain but classic design with a great photo of ‘The Hawk’ as he prepares to take a hack at what ever comes his way…
