Headline – ‘Carlton Wins 300th, He’s All-Time Strikeout King’

Text on the back – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 2, 1983: Phillies’ southpaw Steve Carlton has finished the season with 3,709 strikeouts. a new all-time record.  Prior to 1983, the mark had been 3,508 whiffs by Walter Johnson.  Steve reached yet another milestone at St. louis, September 23rd, by becoming only the 16th pitcher ever to have achieved 300 career victories.

25 years later – Carlton ended his career with 329 victories(good for 11th all-time) and 4,136 strikeouts(4th).
