1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Teams Set – Card #531 – Sparky Anderson

One of the most famous managerial faces in all of baseball, George ‘Sparky’ Anderson’s 1975 Topps card is the perfect, and only way, for me to start this new collection!!

Anderson was the manager of the 1975 & 1976 World Series winning Cincinnati Reds.  With only 1 year of playing experience under his belt, Anderson changed roles and focused on teaching the game and leading the team.

It certainly worked out well for him, as he won 3 World Series championships(2 in Cincy and 1 in Detroit) as well as 2 Manager of the Year awards.  Amazingly both of his Manager of the Year awards came with the Tigers in 1984 and 1987, and not when he managed one of baseball’s greatest dynasties during the mid-1970’s.

Sparky Anderson was voted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 200 by the veteran’s committee.
