Andre Dawson 2010 Topps Sterling – Base
More than two months into 2010, and I have finally landed my first Andre Dawson baseball card of the new year!!!
Numbered 72/250, this beauty comes from the Topps Sterling set. There are several parallel versions of this card in different colors, and this one is the base version. I’ll look to add a few more when they become available. I’ve seen the White one on Ebay a few times, and it too is real gem!!
This card gives off the appearance of art. With its filigree frame, and deep, rich border I get the feeling of looking at a beautiful picture being held by a century-old custom frame.
Now let’s see how many more of these I can add to my Andre Dawson collection!!!

1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Teams Set – Card #108 – Tom Hall
Tom Hall’s career as a Cincinnati Reds player spanned 4 years, from 1972-75. A pitcher that was used in both starting and relief efforts, Hall was a nice player to have on a pitching staff because he was able to absorb innings, whether long or short.
Hall was able to watch and be part of the building of ‘The Big Red Machine’. Unfortunately for him, he did not get to share in their joy of winning 2 World Series championships. Hall was traded to the Mets at the beginning of the 1975 baseball season.

Darryl Strawberry 1990 Fleer All-Stars
Here is a nice card issued by Fleer that celebrates Darryl making the 1990 All-star team.
A superstar at this point of his career, the 1990 All-star game was Darryl’s seventh game, and his second to last one.
As for the card? It’s fair. I have a few of these featuring other players that I collect. And while I do love the whole pinstriped look that Fleer tried to pull off with this design, it doesn’t really do too much for me.
Nonetheless, this is a great new addition to my rapidly growing tribute to Darryl, and this card will quickly find a home in my collection!

I Dropped 2 More Autograph TTM Requests In The Mail On The Way To Work This Morning…
I had a few extra minutes this morning so I quickly put together 2 more TTM attempts before heading out the door.
Letter #1 is going to Cameron Maybin of the Florida Marlins. Yeah, I know I already got him this Spring. I went after Maybin for two reasons. Reason #1 is that I like him as a player, and I had two more Marlins cards of him left in my collection. Reason #2 is that while keeping up to date with how other collectors are doing with him at Spring Training, I have seen everything from perfectly signed, full name signatures to just initials. I thought it would be fun to compare my first pair of cards to hopefully another set.
Letter #2 is going to former Marlins’ catcher, Charles Johnson. Thanks to Charley’s donation, I had a bunch of cards of CJ sitting around. In my note to him, I offered him as many as he wanted to keep for himself with hopes that he’d sign a few for me.
So, we’ll see how this goes… Wish me luck!!!
