Hip, Hip, Jorge!! Hip, Hip, Jorge!! Hip, Hip, Jorge!!!

Not wanting to be a ‘streak-buster’, I waited until after Jorge Cantu of the Florida Marlins set a new major league record before I wrote about it.

Last night, in Florida’s 10-2 win over the Reds, Cantu set a major league record by collecting at least 1 hit and 1 RBI in the first 10 games of the season.  The previous record of 9 games was set more than 90 years ago.

Coming into the game tied with a  9-game streak with George Kelly(set in 1921), Cantu collected his ‘big hit’ in the bottom of the fifth inning.  A long double that scored Hanley Ramirez, and the rest is now history!!

Jorge Cantu may never be enshrined at the Hall of Fame, but it is very possible that the ball, bat or uniform that he wore during this at-bat will be!!

Congratulations Jorge.  3 cheers!!!

Hip, Hip, Jorge!!  Hip, Hip, Jorge!!  Hip, Hip, Jorge!!!

  1. I’m regretting not drafting Cantu on any of my fantasy teams. However, not to be a downer, but guys that start off this hot, tend to drop off radically in the next few months. Shea Hillendbrand is a prime example. Every year he would start off better than everybody, but nonexistent in the 2nd half of the season. I hope Cantu is differnet and the Fish do well, just not as well as my Cubs!
