Mike Schmidt 2008 Donruss Threads Game-Used Bat Card

Mike Schmidt 2008 Donruss Threads Game-Used Bat Card

Serial numbered 52/500, I thought I would show off the latest game-used relic card that I have picked up.  Ironically, this card is numbered to 500, and with today being the anniversary of Schmidt’s 500th career home run, I thought it was a perfect time to show it off.

Agreed??

The card features a nice hunk of lumber from a bat used by Schmidt during his playing days.  And of the several cards I have seen from this set, this one is close to top of the list in the ‘Best Looking’ category.  The red stitched border on the top of the card works very well with the Phillies’ colors.  And that nice piece of wood in the center is like icing on the cake!!

1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Teams Set – Card #602 – John Vukovich

1975 Topps Cincinnati Reds Teams Set – Card #602 – John Vukovich

John Vukovich was traded to the Cincinnati Reds during the offseason between the 1974 and 1975 baseball seasons.  His time in Cincy was short-lived as he appeared in just 31 games before being traded in August of 1975 to the Philadelphia Phillies.

In the 31 games he played for the Reds, Vukovich hit .211 as he collected 8 hits in 38 at-bats.

Happy Anniversary Mike Schmidt!!!

Happy Anniversary Mike Schmidt!!!

On this day in 1987 Michael Jack Schmidt hit the 500th home run of is incredible career!!

I remember watching the highlights of this game.  The joy that Schmidt shared with us as he rounded the bases while pumping his fists is one of the greatest memories I have of baseball from 1980’s.  Rarely do you see a player emit so much joy during a game, but Schmidt did not hold back and I am thankful that  I was able to enjoy his moment with him.

Schmidt finished his career with 548 home runs placing him in 13th place on the all-time list.

Congratulations Mike and Happy Anniversary!!!
