1 Greg Maddux Card Down; Just 2 Left To Go!!!

1 Greg Maddux Card Down; Just 2 Left To Go!!!

I finally nabbed this 1992 Topps Stadium Club ‘Members Only’ card.  I got it in a recent purchase on sportlots.com.  And now I am just 2 steps closer to the finish line with my collection of cards honoring him!

Here it is:

Sweet, huh?  Beautiful imagery, with a sharp and clean picture of Maddux wearing his home uniform while at Wrigley Field.  The card honors Maddux and his winning of the 1991 Cy Young award.  The 1991 Cy Young Award was the first of four consecutive CYs for Maddux, and his only one with the Cubs.

I am thrilled to finally add this card to my collection.

All that stands in the way now are the 1987 Donruss ‘The Rookies’ card and the 1992 Topps ‘Gold’ one…

Andre Dawson 2005 Playoff ‘Tools Of The Trade’ – BLUE!!!

Andre Dawson 2005 Playoff ‘Tools Of The Trade’ – BLUE!!!

I hit a bit of a snag while trying to collect all of the 2004 ‘Tools of the Trade’ cards featuring ‘The Hawk’.  In summary, it was a matter of availability and finances.

So what does a loyal player collector do?  Why, jump right into the next endeavor of course.

And here it is, what is the first of hopefully many additions of Andre Dawson cards from the 2005 ‘Tools of the Trade’ series.

Numbered 144/150, this is the ‘Blue’ parallel.

Ron Santo 1975 Topps

Hey, it’s Ron Santo!!!  And he’s wearing a White Sox uniform – FUN!!!

Good times?  Hardly.  Just ask him…

Paul Molitor 1987 Donruss – ‘Opening Day’

Paul Molitor 1987 Donruss – ‘Opening Day’

The ‘Opening Day’ subset was a fun one to collect as a kid.  It was a nice break from the regular base sets that were issued during that time.  And while the only physical difference between this special issue and the base set is the border color, the set stood out with their ‘Opening Day’ theme.

So how did Paul Molitor and the Brewers perform on Opening Day in 1987?  I’m glad that you asked…

At home, and in front of more than 50,000 fans, Milwaukee beat the Boston Red Sox 5-1.  Hitting lead-off, Molitor went 2-for-4 on the day collecting a triple and a double.  He also scored 1 run and drove in another with his All-star performance.

And now I have a baseball card to commemorate that day!

My 1985 Topps Record Breakers Subset Is Complete!!!

My 1985 Topps Record Breakers Subset Is Complete!!!

Hey, another subset is down.  And I couldn’t be happier.  Collecting subsets issued from the 1980’s has been a blast for me.  And when referring to the ‘Record Breakers’ subsets issued during that time, it has brought back some incredible memories as well.

As a kid, the first set I ever collected was the 792-card 1985 Topps set.  So, while collecting subsets from this specific issue, it has also brought back some great memories of my first experience as a set-builder.

Just look at the group of players honored by this incredible subset of cards:

This subset is littered with Hall of Famers, All-stars, MVPs, ROYs, and so much more.

It was a ton of fun going back to 1985 and I cannot wait to jump right into my next subset from the 1980s!!!

Stay tuned.
