Darryl Strawberry 1987 Fleer
Darryl Strawberry and the New York Mets were riding high at the start of the 1987 baseball season.
Coming off of a World Series championship at the conclusion of the 1986 season, there was no reason not to expect this young and talented team would not duplicate the same feat just one season later.
Well, the Mets faltered and did not defend their title. But, Mr. Strawberry continued to shine!!
Darryl had a solid season in 1987. Hitting .284(a career high), Darryl collected 151 hits(also a career high). His power numbers remained strong as he smacked 39 home runs, while driving in 104 runs and scoring 108 times. He also stole 36 bases that year, which gave him his only 30/30 season. Darryl was honored with another All-star selection in ’87, which gave him 4 in his first 5 years in the big leagues. He finished in 6th place for the NL MVP voting as well.
Darryl’s 1987 Fleer card – not great by any stretch of the imagination, but it is honoring one of the sport’s greats from that season.
