Greg Maddux 1987 Donruss – ‘The Rookies’

Greg Maddux 1987 Donruss – ‘The Rookies’

It has been a very long time coming, but I finally secured my 1987 Donruss ‘The Rookies’ card of Greg Maddux.

And I have my iPhone to thank for it!!!

You see, I had been getting outbid quite a bit over the last few weeks for this card.  Most of the auctions started out low in price and then quickly ramped up near the tail-end of the allotted auction time.  And as each one passed, I either got outbid or I was unable to get online to place my bids.  But now with the iPhone that I have, missing auctions is no longer an issue for me.  And the other day while at work(at a place that I cannot go online), I snuck in a quick bid and now the card is mine!!

A perfect addition to my Greg Maddux player collection!!!

Great card.  Terrible picture!

Dave Winfield 2005 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Game-Used Jersey Card

Dave Winfield 2005 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic Game-Used Jersey Card

Oh Yeah Baby!!!

Good-old vintage Winfield in that glorious Padres uniform that he sported over the first few seasons of his career.  There was no way that I could resist scooping up this card on Ebay.  I had been looking to add a few game-used relic cards of the guys that I have collected and this one is a perfect addition to my Dave Winfield collection.

Featured in his San Diego Padres uniform, with the big ‘SD’ on his hat, I have to imagine that this picture was taken sometime during the mid-to-late 1970’s.

The card’s design looks great, and the added piece of a Game-used jersey that was worn by ‘Big Dave’ is the perfect complement to this great looking baseball card!!!

Andre Dawson 2004 Donruss Elite Extra Edition – ‘Draft Class’

Andre Dawson 2004 Donruss Elite Extra Edition – ‘Draft Class’

Another brilliant addition to my Andre Dawson player collection.  This card, numbered 403/500, comes from the 2004 Donruss Elite Extra Edition subset called ‘Draft Class’.  A 2-sided card, with ultimate gloss on both sides, the card features both Andre Dawson and Lee Smith.   Both players were drafted by big league baseball clubs in the draft of 1975.  And while Dawson made his major league debut a few years before Smith, both of these players are 2 of the biggest stars to come out of that draft class.

Here is the front of the card:

And here is the back:

A great card.  And a great addition to my collection as it honors 2 of my favorite Chicago Cubs players of all-time!!

Paul Molitor 1988 Fleer All-Star Team

Paul Molitor 1988 Fleer All-Star Team

Such a boring and bland photo to use when celebrating a player’s selection to the All-star team.

And while boring and bland can easily be used when describing this baseball card, the same adjectives cannot be used when recalling Molitor’s 1988 baseball season.

In ’88, Molitor was amazing.  Hitting .312 while collecting 190 hits, Molitor proved again that he was an elite hitter.  He also amassed an on-base percentage of .384 which enabled him to score 115 runs and steal 41 bases too.  Molitor smacked 34 doubles while also ripping 6 triples and homering 13 times.

A true All-star in ever respect – Paul Molitor was an elite player during the 1980’s.

Happy Birthday Dave Parker!!

Dave Parker turns 59 years old today.

Dave Parker’s career defines the word ‘steady’.  While Parker had some monstrous seasons during his 19-year career as a professional baseball player, it is amazing at how well he played each and every year.  With a career batting average of .290, Parker eclipsed the .300+ mark 6 times.  As consistently good as anyone in the game, Parker finished in the Top 16 for the MVP award 8 times, while capturing the title in 1978.  His numbers in ’78 were pretty awesome – .334/30/117.  His approach garnered 7 All-star appearances and 3 Gold Glove awards.  ‘Big Dave’ competed in 3 World Series match-ups, and won 2 titles – 1 in 1979 with the Pirates, and 1 ten years later in 1989 with the Oakland A’s.

Happy Birthday wishes for ‘The Cobra’!!!
