Ron Santo 1970 Topps All-Star

Ron Santo 1970 Topps All-Star

I picked up a few of these 1970 Topps All-star cards in a recent Ebay auction.

And this one lands directly in my Ron Santo player collection!!!

The card pays tribute to Santo’s selection to the National League All-star team in 1969.  Beautifully and uniquely designed, I cannot get enough of the newspaper-ish element that Topps adopted for this series of All-star cards.

Let’s take a look back at the 1969 season Santo had.  During a season in which the Cubs were supposed to dominate and make it to the World Series, Santo was a key element to their offensive attack.  Collecting 166 hits during that year, Santo amassed a .289 batting average in ’69 along with an on-base percentage of .384.  His power numbers were solid as he hit 18 doubles and 29 homers while collecting 123 RBI(a career high).

Ron Santo finished in 5th place for the NL MVP voting in 1969.

A great and welcomed addition to my Ron Santo collection!!!
