Coming Soon: Ozzie Smith Signing!!!

Coming Soon:  Ozzie Smith Signing!!!

I have been waiting for this for months.  I missed out on a signing with the All-Star, Gold Glove winning, Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith way back at the beginning of the year so when I saw that another private signing was happening I was immediately interested.

And when I saw the pricing, I jumped!!!

Ozzie is doing a signing on August 18th with a valued member of the SportsGraphing.com website and I am absolutely taking part.

If anyone else wants information about the signing please let me know and I will pass it along.

Where else could a Cubs and Cardinals fan get along so well than at ’30-Year Old Cardboard’!!!

Gerad has been a loyal reader of the site for some time now and is one of the people who I trade with most often.  A Cardinals fan, he has shown me the light when it comes to Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, and one of my newest collecting goals – Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith.  Equally, I have turned him on to Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, and my personal favorite, Andre Dawson.

So, when I announced just a few short weeks ago that I wanted to build a collection honoring Ozzie Smith, Gerad posted a comment that he could help me get started.

And help, he did – just look at this stack of card featuring ‘The Wizzard’:

Impressive, huh?  In total, I received 51 unique cards of Ozzie to help get my collection going.

Here are a few of the cards that stand out:

And then there was this…

WoW!!!  A 1979 Topps Ozzie Smith Rookie card – This was a spectacular gift and certainly one that I did not expect.  I had started shopping these around a bit and I knew that I had my work cut out for myself to try to find a nice and affordable one.  Gerad solved that problem for me in a hurry!!

Thank you Gerad – your generosity is unmatched.  I owe you one, two, Ok, I owe you a ton!!!!  Thanks again!!!

Andre Dawson 1983 & 1984 Stuart Cards

Andre Dawson 1983 & 1984 Stuart Cards

Here are a few truly vintage baseball cards of ‘The Hawk’.

Issued in 1983 and 1984 by Stuart, these cards capture Dawson during his prime with the Montreal Expos.  He was on a team that was brimming with talent.  From Gary Carter to Tim Raines to Tony Perez to Pete Rose and of Course Andre Dawson, those Expos teams were great to watch in the mid-1980’s and I firmly believe that if they had played more games south of the border the Expos franchise would have been quite popular.

I love oddballs!!!!

1986 Topps Atlanta Braves Team Leader Starring Dale Murphy

1986 Topps Atlanta Braves Team Leader Starring Dale Murphy

I am not sure that any other Braves player from the 1980’s epitomized what baseball greatness was.

That is probably a big reason as to why Dale Murphy was selected by Topps for their 1986 Team Leaders card.

And as a Braves and Murphy fan, I could not agree more!!!

Did You Know…

In their inaugural season of 1993, the Florida Marlins won just 64 games with closer Bryan Harvey playing a significant role in 72 percent of them, saving 45 games and winning one while posting a 1.70 ERA in 59 appearances.

My take – Man, the Marlins could use more professionals in their bullpen these days…
