Ozzie Smith 1990 Topps Glossy All-Star ‘Send In’

This one is a true ‘Beauty’!!!

Part of Topps’ send in sets of the mid-80’s and into the 90’s, baseball card collectors were given opportunities to receive cards directly from the manufacturer that were not issued in any other manner.  Special insert cards were included in each pack and they contained the details of how to take advantage of these great offers.  And as a kid, you could separate the real collectors from the pretenders by finding these ‘Send-ins’ in their albums!!

The picture of Ozzie on this 1990 Topps ‘Send In’ is superb.  Getting ready to go to work at the plate, Ozzie is pictured making his final preparations before going to bat!!!

  1. 1988 was the only year it occurred to me to actually send away for these cards. I actually had the whole set for that year! Whereas the yearly rack pack glossy All Stars pretty much featured only the starting lineups, and either the team captains or managers, the send-in set featured the whole rosters (and some guys who there is absolutely no way they ever actually made the AS team, but were still included because SOMEONE at Topps thought they were a “prospect”). Notice you almost never see the cards of guys like Shane Rawley, Bob Brenly, Mike Henneman, Mike Dunne, and Walt Weiss.
