Hey Look, It’s Darryl Strawberry!!!

Hey Look, It’s Darryl Strawberry!!!

If you are a frequent follower of ’30-YOC’, and I hope that you are, than you know all about my Darryl Strawberry dilemma.

Straw was doing a signing at the memorabilia shop in the mall and it was being held at the same time of the card show.  I actually went a different route than I normally would but I still got my Strawberry signed ball, and I saved roughly $32 in the process.

But still, Strawberry was there and I wanted to see him in person.

Luckily for me, Alfredo was going to get a jersey signed, so I tagged along to check it out.  Not only did Darryl provide an incredible autograph for Alfredo, but he also have him not 1, not 2, but three great inscriptions.  The jersey came out beautifully!!!

After Darryl signed the jersey, he gave us both an opportunity to get a photo-op with him.  And we both take advantage.

Here I am with one of my baseball heroes – the 1983 NL Rookie of the Year, an 8-time All-star, and 4-time World Series Champion!!!

Good times!!!

Card Show Purchase #7 – Dave Winfield 2005 Donruss ‘Yankees Clippings’ Game-Used Jersey Card

Card Show Purchase #7 – Dave Winfield 2005 Donruss ‘Yankees Clippings’ Game-Used Jersey Card

This is the final card I am showing off from the baseball card show that I attended on Saturday.  And in my opinion, it happens to be the best one as well…

Screaming Yankee pride, this card comes from the ‘Yankee Clippings’ set issued by Donruss in 2005.

Featuring a great piece of jersey that contains a Yankee pinstripe, the piece of jersey is brilliantly framed by a cut-out of the Yankees logo.

This card is a fantastic addition to not only my Dave Winfield collection, but also to my Hall of Fame relic collection too…

Check it out:

Card Show Purchase #6 – Wade Boggs 2008 Upper Deck Heroes Game-Used Jersey Card

Card Show Purchase #6 – Wade Boggs 2008 Upper Deck Heroes Game-Used Jersey Card

Wade Boggs is one of the players that I am honoring right now by collecting his cards.  And while my absolute preference is to go after his cards from his Red Sox days, he did make history during his time in Tampa…

And this card pays homage to that history…

Celebrating Boggs and his 3,000th career hit in the majors, this card captures that moment for us and gives us a piece of game-used jersey to celebrate the occasion!

A great addition to my Wade Boggs collection!!!

Oh, and in case you did not know…  Wade Boggs is the only player in major league history to have his 3,oooth hit be a home run.

Card Show Purchase #4 – Frank Robinson 2005 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Game-Used Jersey Card

Just look at that smile!!!

And I am not talking about the one on the Orioles’ mascot.  I’m talking about the one that is across the face of one of my favorite players of all-time – Hall of Famer, Frank Robinson!!!

A sweet card, the brass accents used in the Upper Deck name and logo as well as it surrounding the jersey really makes this card come to life.

And while I would have loved to seen a Grey, Wool swatch featured in the center of this bad-boy, I will take anything and everything I can get when it comes to Mr. Robinson!!!

Card Show Purchase #3 – Dennis Eckersley 2010 Topps ‘Peak Performances’ Game-Used Jersey Card

Card Show Purchase #3 – Dennis Eckersley 2010 Topps ‘Peak Performances’ Game-Used Jersey Card

There’s that famous and familiar side-arm hurling Hall of Famer!!!

Man, this card jumped out at me from a $3.00 bin.

This card looks pretty classy if you ask me.  I like Topps’ use of Silver as an accent color in both their logo and the player nameplate.  And then you couple that with some strong and bold colors, a great action photo, and a sweet swatch from an Eckersley jersey and you have an absolute winner!!!

And the stars and stripes in the background will always win over this collector…

Card Show Purchase #2 – Wade Boggs 2005 Upper Deck ‘Classic Materials’ Game-Used Jersey Card

Card Show Purchase #2 – Wade Boggs 2005 Upper Deck ‘Classic Materials’ Game-Used Jersey Card

This is the first of two Wade Boggs cards that I scored on the day.  Coming from the ‘Classic Materials’ set issued in 2005 by Upper Deck, I really like this card’s design.

With strong colors, and a neat way to highlight the piece of jersey in the banner that runs across the card, Upper Deck did a very nice job with this one!!!

I also really like their use of Red as the border color.  Obviously it works well with the Red Sox theme, and it also allows for the Gold frame surrounding Boggs’ photo to pop!

Card Show Purhcase #1 – Tony Gwynn 2008 Upper Deck SP ‘Legendary Memorabilia’ Game-Used Jersey Card

Card Show Purhcase #1 – Tony Gwynn 2008 Upper Deck SP ‘Legendary Memorabilia’ Game-Used Jersey Card

While not the first card that I picked up on Saturday, this one could be one of my favorites…

I am starting to accumulate a nice collection of the cards from this set, and I really enjoy the design and overall look of this set.

With just enough of a vintage look and feel with the muted colors and Sepia tones used in the background of the card, SP did a great job with their photo selection for this set, and especially this card.

While I cannot tell if the colors of Gwynn’s uniform have been enhanced or not, I can tell you that the colors from his Padres’ uniform really stand out in person when looking at this one.

From his early years with the Padres, this card is an instant hit in my collection!!!

Baseball Card Show Review

Baseball Card Show Review

Well, another weekend has passed and with it goes another baseball card show too.

This show had all of the promise of giving me the ability to bulk up on some of my player collections, and maybe start a few news ones too, but it failed to deliver.

In fact, I spent less than 10 minutes rummaging through bargain bins this time around…  The guy that normally brings the most $0.10 boxes brought just one this time and there was hardly anything in there for me to get excited about – I only grabbed three cards, and I won’t be reporting about any of them today…

I did, however, do pretty well in the Game-Used card category, and I will be sharing those purchases with you throughout the day.  In total, I walked away with just 7 cards, but once you see the full haul, I think that you’ll enjoy what I brought home.

So stay tuned as I will unveil each of the 7 relic cards to you throughout the day.

Enjoy!!!

Oh, I also ran into a very famous 4-time World Series champion too – that story will hit ’30-YOC’ tonight!!!

Thanks.
