Fergie Jenkins 2010 Topps Commemorative Patch Card!!!
This card is a sweet addition to my Fergie Jenkins collection! With a unique design, and a gorgeous patch as the centerpiece, I am really excited that I finally brought this card home.
The patch that Topps created for this card pays homage to Fergie’s selection to the All-Star team in 1971. 1971 was also the year that Fergie won the Cy Young award, so that makes it a lot more special in this collector’s eyes!!!
And doesn’t that US flag flying in the center of the card’s design just go perfectly with the Cubs uniform that Fergie is proudly wearing??
Yeah, I think so too!!!

Reggie Jackson 2004 Fleer Greats
Just a classic looking card of Reggie, and great addition to my collection that honors him
Fleer did a marvelous job with this card. From the color choices, to the frame-looking border, to the 3-D look and feel.
This card is a piece of art!!!

Paul Molitor 1989 Donruss All-Star
This set was a nice addition to the 1989 Donruss base set, and it paid tribute to both the AL & NL All-star rosters from the 1988 baseball season.
In 1988, Molitor made the team for his third of seven times.
And based on his stats from that ’88 season, his selection to the squad was a worthy one. The numbers – 194 hits, 84 runs scored, 35 doubles, 11 home runs, 27 stolen bases, and a .315 batting average.
Not too shabby at all….

Juan Marichal turns 73 years old today.
In photographs, I find Juan Marichal to be one of the most polarizing pitchers ever. An extremely photogenic player, Juan and that incredible wind-up will stop you dead in your tracks whether you are looking at pics on the web, flipping through pages of a magazine, or in my case diving through boxes of baseball cards.
I don’t know that much about Marichal, but from the several books that I have read, he is regarded very highly by some of the greatest hitters and pitchers from his era – and that goes a long way with me.
Happy Birthday Mr. Marichal!!!

Today is Mickey Mantle’s birthday.
And while I am way too young too pass around first-hand stories about watching ‘The Mick’ roam around center field for the New York Yankees, I do have the next best thing. You see, my dad is from the Bronx and spent much of his youth with his older brother in and around Yankee Stadium. Back when baseball was the sport of choice for America’s youth, my dad and uncle and thousands of other kids around the New York area worshiped Mickey Mantle.
The stories that have been shared with me are priceless. Sneaking into the stadium or ditching classes early to catch playoff games on the radio. And the players that they got to see and follow are as historic as they get, with Mickey Mantle leading the way!!!
So on this day, the entire ’30-YOC’ family wishes Mr. Mickey Mantle a Happy Birthday!!!
