Greg Maddux 2006 Topps Heritage

Greg Maddux 2006 Topps Heritage

While this cannot by any stretch of the imagination be considered a ‘vintage’ baseball card, it sure does emote that feeling!!

The card comes from the Topps Heritage brand, which happens to be one of my favorites.  I like how Topps has continued to go back to its roots.  And while many say that it shows a lack of creativity amongst today’s designers, I like to look at it as a sign of respect and a way to pay homage to what got them to this point.

This card of Greg Maddux is as near perfection as it gets in my eyes.

Did You Know…

Joe DiMaggio was the only player to collect at least one MLB All-Star Game hit at Yankee Stadium, the Polo Grounds, and Ebbets Field.

Happy Birthday Harold Baines!!!

Happy Birthday Harold Baines!!!

Harold Baines turns 52 years old today.

22 magnificent seasons, most of which were not held under the microscope of the big lights in a big city.

While Harold Baines played in some of the largest cities in the baseball world, he managed to escape national attention while still putting on consistent performances.

Baines’ numbers are extremely noteworthy, and his ability to deliver season after season is very evident by his impressive offensive stats.

Baines has a lifetime batting average of .289 alongside 2,866 hits.  He also has scored 1,299 runs, hit 384 home runs, and drove in 1,628 runs.  Baines was a 6-time All-Star and a 1-time Silver Slugger Award winner.

Happy Birthday Mr. Baines!!!

Gary Carter ‘Fab Five’ – Card #4 – 1984 Topps

Gary Carter ‘Fab Five’ – Card #4 – 1984 Topps

Now that my Gary Carter collection is complete, it is time to show of my favorite five cards from the set.

Card #4 is from the 1984 Topps set.

As you all know, the 1984 Topps baseball card set is a favorite at ’30-YOC’.  Offering us two images, 1 action and 1 cameo, the cards look fantastic and were a it with collectors.

The coloring that Topps chose for the cards works very well too – just look at how the Expos nameplate that runs vertically along the left border blends right with Carter’s striping on his Expos uniform.

And that cloud of dust at Cater’s feet is just icing on the cake.  But I really don’t recommend eating dirt flavored icing – I’ve been there and it is not pretty…  🙂
