OH YEAH!!!! A Signed Willie McCovey Baseball For The Collection!!! YES!!!!

OH YEAH!!!!   A Signed Willie McCovey Baseball For The Collection!!!  YES!!!!

I have told you a few times now that my email address is loaded into a lot of sports-related data bases.  And while that results in quite a bit of ‘junk mail’, every once in a while, I get a gem.

This time around it was from Mill Creek Sports – and it was AWESOME!!

On a weekly basis, Mill Creek offers  a select number of sale products.  Covering all major sports and even entertainment, sometimes there are items that I like, sometimes there are items that I don’t care for, and then sometimes there are items that I love!

This is one of those times…  Come See:

A perfectly signed major league baseball in Blue pen on the sweet-spot by Hall of Famer, Mr. Willie McCovey!!!  And a Hall of Fame inscription too!!!!

WHOA!!!  A tremendous addition to the very rapidly growing collection I have put together.

Thank you Mill Creek!!!

Tony Perez 1973 Topps

Tony Perez 1973 Topps

Look at how happy ‘Doggie’ is in this photo of him that was used in the 1973 Topps baseball card set.

And why wouldn’t the All-Star be happy?  He and his Cincinnati Reds teammates were about to set baseball history and build one of the greatest dynasties that sport has ever seen.

‘The Big Red Machine’ was made up of four superstars – Rose, Morgan, Bench, and Hall of Famer, Mr. Tony Perez!!!

I am so happy to add this card to my collection that honors Perez’s fabulous career!!!  YES!!

Dwight Gooden 1987 Fleer Superstar Specials w/Roger Clemens

Dwight Gooden 1987 Fleer Superstar Specials w/Roger Clemens

Wow, back in 1987 these guys were on top of the baseball world.  Having just competed for the World Series trophy during the previous Fall Classic, Dwight Gooden and Roger Clemens could do no wrong!

Or so we all thought….

I would find it very hard to think that anybody could predict the routes that these two would take to the year 2011.  And while each had several speed bumps and hiccups presented to them on the field, they are nothing like what these guys have been through off of the field.

Instead of rehashing issues that have been covered to no end, I will choose to celebrate the two guys that threw a combined 456 strikeouts in that 1987 campaign!

Did You Know…

No pitcher in major league baseball history has thrown more wild pitches than Hall of Famer, Nolan Ryan.  From 1966-1993, Ryan uncorked 277 wild pitches.

Happy Birthday Mark Grace!!

Happy Birthday Mark Grace!!

Amazingly, Mark Grace turns 47 years old today!!

One of my favorite Cubs players of all-time, Mark Grace was so much fun to watch.  It’s not often that you get to witness watching a player have fun day in and day out during his playing days.  But with Mark Grace, that is exactly what you got!!

A guy with an incredible swing and defensive skills to match, Grace was an all-around baseball star.  While never the most celebrated player on his roster, Grace was certainly the most consistent.  His approach at the plate was consistent enough to yield him more hits than ANY other player in the decade of the 1990’s – WoW!!!

For Mr. Grace’s birthday I want to get him a flag.  Not just an ordinary, run-of-the-mill flag though…  I want this one to be special.  I want it to be White in color with Blue letters and numbers.  And while we’re at it, let’s slap his name and #17 on it and hang it from a pole in the outfield at Wrigley Field(a place Gracey called home for 13 amazing years)!!

Happy Birthday Gracey!!!

My Monthly Baseball Card Show Has Been Canceled Indefinitely…

My Monthly Baseball Card Show Has Been Canceled Indefinitely…

The email hit me like a ton of bricks.  And a few days after getting the announcement sent to me via electronic mail, I am left sitting here, scratching my head…

The crowd size was growing…

The number of dealers has increased…

What the hell happened???

Late last week I got an email from the promoter of the monthly Dania card show that is roughly 45 minutes from my house.  Friends with the Coral Springs (2 minutes from my house) show promoter, he sent the following note:

“It is with regret that we inform you that effective immediately The sports card and memorabilia show at ” THE CORAL SQUARE MALL” on the 4th Saturday of the month has been cancelled indefinitely.

The promoters ( Adam and Scotty ) want to thank those of you that supported this show. There are plans to replace this show with another but at this time no details are available. We will send out another Email blast when it becomes available.”

Sucks, huh??  I was prepared to skip the show this weekend not knowing that there would not be another one the following month.

I am very sad to see this monthly show stopping.  And while I probably spent no more than $20 per show, if that, I really enjoyed my time sifting through cards and pulling rare ‘gems’ in the bargain bins…

But, I still have another local baseball card show nearby.  And a card shop too!  And from what I have read and seen from other bloggers and collectors, that is more than what most of them have.

Time to find the silver lining.  Time to focus on the positive.

Goodbye to the Coral Springs Baseball Card Show.  You will be missed!!!!
