Willie McCovey 2001 Fleer ‘Greats Of The Game’

Willie McCovey 2001 Fleer ‘Greats Of The Game’

If you have been a longtime reader of ’30-YOC’ then you know that I am not a big fan of posed/portrait style images on baseball cards.  I like action shots, and I will take them over a posed photo any day of the week.

But every once in a while, I come across a posed photo on a card and it catches my eye.

This card is one that falls into that category.

See for yourself:

Nice, huh?  Yeah, I like it too!

I enjoy the Fleer ‘Greats’ issues and this one from 2001 is one of my favorites.  And it doesn’t hurt at all that the card features one of my favorite slugging Hall of Famers on it – Willie ‘Stretch’ McCovey!!

A Trio Of 1990 Donruss Bo Jackson Baseball Cards!!!

A Trio Of 1990 Donruss Bo Jackson Baseball Cards!!!

A triple header of Bo Jackson baseball cards from the 1990 Donruss set.

A great way to knock out three needs at one time, if you ask me!!!

Take a peek:

The card on the left is the ‘Bonus’ MVP card.  Each team was represented by one player, and Bo fit the bill – though largely due to his flash and potential.  Personally, I would have chosen George Brett.

The center card is the All-Star card honoring Bo’s selection to the All-Star team roster for the American League.

Lastly, the card on the right is the Diamond King card.  Again, each team got one card, and Bo rightfully was due for a DK all his own.

Of the three, my favorite is a no-brainer – Door #2!!!

1989 Topps Turn Back The Clock – Card #1 – Dwight Gooden & The 1984 Baseball Season

1989 Topps Turn Back The Clock – Card #1 – Dwight & The 1984 Baseball Season

“Five Years Ago”

This card is card #1 from the 1989 Topps ‘Turn Back The Clock Set’.  The card features Dwight Gooden’s 1984 Rookie card on the front and recalls some of the greatest highlights from the ’84 season on the back.

Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Jack Morris’ no hitter on opening weekend.

Tony Gwynn’s .351 batting average.

Teammates Don Mattingly and Dave Winfield battling for the batting title.

Dwight Gooden’s rise to fame, while dominating his competition on a regular basis.

Happy Anniversary Carl Yastrzemski!!!

Happy Anniversary Carl Yastrzemski!!!

On this day in 1979 Carl Yastrzemski collected hit #3000 of his amazing baseball career!!!

On the road and taking on the New York Yankees in front of 34,000+ Yankee fans, Carl Yastrzemski and the Boston Red Sox made this game a memorable one.  Winning easily 9-2 against their divisional foes, ‘Yaz’ and the Red Sox enjoyed both team and individual success on this historic day.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, ‘Yaz’ connected for a single off of Yankees’ pitcher Jim Beattie.  Hit #3,000 was 19 years in the making, but Carl Yastrzemksi’s dedication to the game and the art of hitting certainly helped earn him a spot in this legendary club.

Conrats ‘Yaz’!!!
