Greg Maddux 2005 Donruss Diamond Kings

Greg Maddux 2005 Donruss Diamond Kings

I have a very healthy stack of Andre Dawson baseball cards from this set.  And a growing lot of cards of Fergie Jenkins from the same set.

So, I figured that it was time to add the Greg Maddux card to my collection!!!

The card looks pretty good, but there is one thing in the portrait that keeps drawing my eye.  Care to guess??

Have a look at the card:

Ok, now guess.

Did you get it?

Have a look at Maddux’s hat.

Ok, now focus on the brim.

Ok, right below the brim do you see that little patch of hair??  Weird, right?  Couldn’t the artist just omit that??

Sheesh…

Reggie Jackson 1987 Donruss ‘Opening Day’

Reggie Jackson 1987 Donruss ‘Opening Day’

In his final major league season, Reggie Jackson joined the team he started his career with – The Oakland A’s.

And on Opening Day of the 1987, Reggie started for the team as their DH.

His statline – 0-for-3, with a walk and a strikeout.

Dennis Eckersley 1987 Topps Traded

Dennis Eckersley 1987 Topps Traded

Here is Eckersley’s first card as a member of the Oakland A’s.  And while he was a star on the diamond prior to joining his 4th team, it was his time with the A’s that brought Dennis Eckersley his greatest success on the field.

In 9 years with Oakland, Eck amassed 320 saves and a 41-31 record.  He was a 4-time All-Star, Cy Young Award winner, MVP winner, and he competed in 3 World Series match-ups with the team.

Smile Dennis!!!

Happy Anniversary Eddie Murray!!!

Happy Anniversary Eddie Murray!!!

On this day in 1983, Eddie Murray sealed the Baltimore Orioles World Series championship dream with a very impressive outing.

In Game 5 of the match-up, Murray and his Orioles entered the game with a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Murray proceeded to go 3-for-4 on the night while scoring 2 runs, driving in 3, and crushing 2 monster home runs.  It was his offense that was the difference, as the O’s blanked the Phillies 5-0 en route to their World Series title.

A classic performance by one of the game’s greatest hitters!

Happy Anniversary Mr. Murray!!!
