Jim Palmer ‘Fab Five’ – Card #5 – 1983 Donruss

Jim Palmer ‘Fab Five’ – Card #5 – 1983 Donruss

Now that my Jim Palmer collection is complete, it is time to show of my favorite five cards from the set.

Card #5 – 1983 Donruss

For some reason, a lot of Jim Palmer’s baseball cards feature him and his pitching hand in a close-up photo.

While I like this, I do also like cards that feature his famous ‘leg-kick’ that gave his pitching velocity another level.

What I do find peculiar though is that in EVERY SINGLE card of Palmer that shows his pitching hand, his grip is left out in the open and exposed – almost giving the hitter an advantage.  In today’s era and with today’s pitcher, they use every trick in the book to hide their grip from tha batter for as long as possible.

But not Jim Palmer – he is almost daring you…  ‘Here it is, a nice fastball for you.  What are you going to do with it?’
