Andre Dawson & Fergie Jenkins 2011 Topps Leather Glove Cards – Brown & Black!!!

Andre Dawson & Fergie Jenkins 2011 Topps Leather Glove Cards – Brown & Black!!!

I guess that you can say that I went on a bit of a spree the other night.  Trying to stay true to my vow of not needing to buy the first card I see just because it is a ‘new release’ I waited to start gathering these cards up until the initial selling prices began to settle.

And I have to say, I am proud of myself.  Proud of my patience, and proud of my money savings skills.

But, I will say that as soon as I nabbed on of these new cards, I did not stop until all four were mine.

And now, I will show off the quartet!!

First, the Brown glove relics:

And now, the Black gloves, each is numbered up to 99:

And lastly, the four cards together:

SWEET!!!!

Brooks Robinson 2011 Topps Lineage – SWEET!!!

Brooks Robinson 2011 Topps Lineage – SWEET!!!

There are a nice handful of design elements that I enjoy about this baseball card.

Let me list them for you:

  1. Brooks’ vintage uniform
  2. Outfield wall used as a backdrop
  3. Old-school Orioles logo
  4. Silver lettering
  5. Topps’ Lineage logo
  6. Brooks’ ‘ready’ stance

See this card below?

Yeah, I used to have a few t-shirts that featured very similar looks.  Who did I have???

Off the top of my head – Boggs, Mike Greenwell, Eric Davis, Kirby Puckett, and of course, Mr. Andre Dawson!!!

Good times – LOL!!!!

Reggie Jackson 2010 Topps ‘Cards Your Mom Threw Out’

Reggie Jackson 2010 Topps ‘Cards Your Mom Threw Out’

Now this is a beautiful baseball card!!!

Patterned after the 1961 Topps design, the card is very plain and basic.  But that allows for a fantastic photo to take center-stage.

Ex:

Here we have a very young, and very suave-looking Reggie Jackson.  Based on the background (old Yankee Stadium), it appears that Reggie was working on some posed action shots for whomever was snapping these pics.

Lucky photographer.  And great work too!!!

What Ron Santo’s Hall Of Fame Election Means To The Hobby

What Ron Santo’s Hall Of Fame Election Means To The Hobby

You know, I can never really just win.  Sure, I get lucky some times, but I very rarely just flat-out win.

As thrilled that I am that Ron Santo will be enshrined at Cooperstown next summer, what this news has done to the hobby of Ron Santo baseball cards and memorabilia is not so good for this collector.

You see, less than 48 hours ago, Santo was not a Hall of Famer, and Ebay had less than 1,200 items listed that contained his name in their titles.  Today, that is not that case as I have seen a boom of close to 50% as the number has come close to 2,000 items.

And they’re not being listed cheap either.

Between the surplus of newly listed autographs, baseball cards, photos, and memorabilia, I am in Ron Santo heaven.

Now I just have to hope that I can snag a few new (and by new, I mean ‘old’)pieces for my collection!!!

Wish me luck.
