My Andre Dawson Signed Mini-Helmet Collection Is Complete & SWEET!!!!

My Andre Dawson Signed Mini-Helmet Collection Is Complete & SWEET!!!!

In case you missed it last week, I received my Chicago Cubs mini helmet signed by Andre Dawson.

If you did miss that post (shame on you if you did), here is a picture of the signed helmet:

What that means is that I have finally scored all four helmets that I wanted for this collection – all 4 teams that Andre played for during his Hall of Fame career!!!

And now, I am finally able to show them off – all together, and looking fantastic!!!

And now that all of the helmets are signed on the brim, I can put them in the cases that I purchased for them and showcase them on my desk.

Have a peek:

Oh YEAH!!!!

Dennis Eckersley 1988 Donruss Baseball’s Best

Dennis Eckersley 1988 Donruss Baseball’s Best

After leading the Oakland A’s to the World Series in 1988, there was little doubt that Dennis Eckersley was among ‘Baseballs Best’.

His numbers from the 1988 baseball season were impressive – 60 appearances, 45 saves, 4-2 record, 2.35 ERA, 70 strikeouts in 72 innings pitched, and strikeout to walk ratio of 6.36:1.

Very solid stuff – no wonder why he finished 2nd in the Cy Young voting.

Frank Robinson 2005 Upper Deck ‘Past Time Pennants’

Frank Robinson 2005 Upper Deck ‘Past Time Pennants’

Frank Robinson is one of my favorite baseball legends to collect – and surprisingly, his cards are still somewhat affordable.

Along with having a stat-filled resume that can be compared to the greatest offensive players to have ever played the game, Robinson also suited up for two of my favorite teams from years ago – The Red and The Orioles!!

This card looks great.   But I do wonder how much nicer it would be if Frank’s image was presented to us in color…

Andre Dawson 2010 Obak Green #d to 25

Andre Dawson 2010 Obak Green #d to 25

Trying to nab some parallel versions of cards in an attempt to add some more heft to my checklist, I found this card from the 2010 Tri-Star Obak set waiting for me.

So, with no bidding competition in site, I took it out!!

And now it is mine.

Here is the card:

Known as the ‘Green’ version of the base card, this is the third card I have scored of Dawson from this set.  And best of all, it is serial numbered to just 25 copies.  This is number 14/25!!

Ozzie Smith ‘Fab Five’ – Card #3 – 1994 Donruss

Ozzie Smith ‘Fab Five’ – Card #3 – 1994 Donruss

Now that my Ozzie Smith collection is complete, it is time to show of my favorite five cards from the set.

Card #3 – 1994 Donruss

If I had to estimate, I would say that somewhere between 25-35% of Ozzie Smith’s baseball cards feature him playing defense.

And rightfully so – Ozzie is considered to be the best defensive shortstop in baseball history, and a legendary infielder.  His 13 consecutive Gold Glove awards from 1980-92 confirm his place in baseball history as one of the best to ever wear an infielder’s mitt.

This card from the 1994 Donruss baseball card set perfectly captures images of Ozzie Smith that I witnessed throughout my childhood.

Prior to tonight, this baseball card was simply a myth.  For a moment, I thought that I might have imagined it up…

I have been collecting the 2008 Upper Deck Heroes set that features Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks for the better part of 18 months.

And up until today, I have never seen a Purple card (the ones serial numbered to just 25 copies).

But now, I finally have proof that it does indeed exist.

Have a peek:

Kind of like Bigfoot, huh??

Too bad that I have no desire to pay the $50 price tag.  Oh well, I still have 24 more chances…  I hope!!
