Andre Dawson 8-Card Postcard Set – NICE!!!!

Andre Dawson 8-Card Postcard Set – NICE!!!!

I’ve got Andre Dawson on the brain tonight – most nights when I am blogging, actually….  But tonight, I am doing back-to-back Dawson posts.

I picked up this custom postcard set featuring Hall of Famer, Andre Dawson.  I had seen these being sold on Ebay for the last several years, but was never really ready to make a purchase.  Some sold low, some sold high, and some did not sell at all….

Ultimately, my patience paid off, as I paid just $0.99 for the set of postcards – A real steal, if you ask me.

From what I have been able to find out, the set was produced by Barry Colla, and must have been issued sometime around 1987, ’88, or ’89.  Considered to be ‘unofficial’, Colla did get away with using the Chicago Cubs logo, and I am thrilled that none of these have been airbrushed!!!

So, here it is – the latest addition to my memorabilia collection that pays tribute to ‘The Hawk’.

The whole set:

And now, on to the close-ups:

Thanks for reading!!

Andre Dawson 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts Game-Used Jersey Card

Andre Dawson 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts Game-Used Jersey Card

I have had my eyes on fixed on this very baseball card for quite some time.  And now, I can call it mine.

Check it out:

From the 2008 Playoff Prime Cuts set, the card features a nice photo of my favorite baseball player taking a mean rip at the pitcher’s offering.  And with the way that the card’s background has been designed, the photo actually looks like it is raised.

The card is serial numbered as 49/50, and best of all, it features a fabulous swatch of Cubs’ pinstripe jersey framed in the great shape of Dawson’s jersey, number 8!!!

Oh, yeah!!!

Fergie Jenkins 2005 Donruss Hall Of Fame Heroes – RED

Two weeks ago, I showed off the base card of this 2005 Donruss Hall of Fame Heroes set, and now it is time to show off another.

Here it is, the ‘Red’ version:

I wish that I had more parallel versions from this set to scan and share, but this is not the case.  I think it is time for me to shop for a few more…

Stay tuned.

Simply awful…  I am very sorry that you have to be exposed to this one…

I will make it brief.  I promise!!

Baseball Card Show On Saturday!!!

Baseball Card Show On Saturday!!!

The first weekend of the month can mean several things…

Haircuts, cleaning the A/C filter, etc…  But for this South Florida baseball card collector, it also means – BASEBALL CARD SHOW!!!!

And today, I will be heading to my first card show of 2012 – and I cannot wait!!!

I have not been to a show since November so I am eager to dive into some newly replenished bargain bins hoping that I can rescue some sweet cardboard.

And with the 2012 Topps base set hitting the store shelves this week, I am very eager to see these cards up close and in person.  Who knows, maybe I will seek out a Jose Reyes card of him sporting his new Marlins uniform…

One thing is for certain though.  I will share all of my purchases with you on Monday – you can count on that!!!

Enjoy the weekend everybody.

‘unclemoe’ Sends Over Some Great Gifts!!!!

‘unclemoe’ Sends Over Some Great Gifts!!!!

‘unclemoe’ and I have become buddies of sorts.  We both have a fine appreciation for this sport and hobby, and we both admire each other’s blogs.

If you have yet to check out his blog, you are missing out!!!  The task he is trying to complete is certainly the most grand I have ever heard of – collect the full 2008 Topps baseball card set – AUTOGRAPHED!!!  Yes, all 990 cards!!!  And amazingly, he is almost half-way there…  It is truly something to marvel at, I suggest any fan of the hobby check it out:  2008 Topps Blog.

Anyway, he also throws in some non-2008 Topps stuff.  And he recently featured a card that I wanted.  So, I asked for it and he obliged.

The card?  A 2011 Topps Reggie Jackson from the ’60 Years Of Topps’ set.

Here it is:

But, he also threw some other goodies into the mix.

And here they are….

A Kirby Puckett card I needed for my collection from the 1993 Topps Black Gold Set:

A new (new for me, but it is from 1993) Jim Palmer baseball card:

A nice stack of Brooks Robinson cards:

Some great Billy Williams stuff:

And lastly, a Game-USed bat card from the newest enshrined member of the Baseball Hall Of Fame, Mr. Roberto Alomar:

Thank you for the great cards, unclemoe!!  I owe you, big time!!!

1993 Topps Florida Marlins Team Set

1993 Topps Florida Marlins Team Set

OK folks, this is team set number that I am ready to show off.  I have secured, and scanned, the full Florida Marlins team set from the 1993 Topps issue.

The cards and players take me back to a time that I was not actively collecting, nor living in the state of Florida (that would come in 1994).  Still, I was a baseball fan, and I have obtained a lot of knowledge in this history of my favorite major league club.

So, without further ado, here is the full 1993 Topps Marlins team set:

Of the cards, here is my personal favorite:

Hey, is that Rich Ireland or Peyton Manning??

Lots of staged photos in this set, huh?  I guess that should be expected since so many of these guys never suited up prior to when Topps commissioned the pictures…
