Wade Boggs ‘Fab Five’ – Card #1 – 1991 Topps Stadium Club

Wade Boggs ‘Fab Five’ – Card #1 – 1991 Topps Stadium Club

Now that my Wade Boggs collection is complete, it is time to show of my favorite five cards from the set.

Card #1 – 1991 Topps Stadium Club

This one may surprise you – especially due to the overwhelming popularity of Boggs’ 1983 Topps rookie baseball card.

But for this collector, who has a love for ‘batting cage cards’, selecting this one as my favorite card of Wade Boggs in my collection was easy.

Have a look:

Here you have one of the games greatest hitters working to perfect his craft.  It has been very well documented that Boggs was the first to arrive at the practice facility and the last one to leave.  He spent a ton of time ‘in the cage’ working tirelessly to become a better hitter.

If you have ever read or seen interviews with Boggs, you know he has an obsessive personality – and as it relates to hitting, he was uber-obsessive.

But, that all paid off now didn’t it??

I love baseball cards that show the players interacting and signing autographs for the fans.

And as  Tony Gwynn collector, this card is even that more special for me.

Lance Parrish enjoyed a solid campaign in 1980, and the 2003 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites set pays homage to that season.

Parrish became and All-Star and Silver Slugger Award winner in 1980.

Here are some of the impressive numbers: .286 batting average, 158 hits, 34 doubles, 26 home runs, 79 runs scored, and 82 RBI.

Atta Boy Lance!!!

Did You Know…

Don Newcombe is the only pitcher to win the Rookie of the Year, Cy Young Award, and MVP.  Newcombe was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 1949.  He captured both the Cy Young and MVP awards in 1956.

Happy Birthday Benito Santiago!!!

Happy Birthday Benito Santiago!!!

Benito Santiago turns 47 years old today.

Santiago was an established baseball star when he joined the Florida Marlins in 1993 for their inaugural baseball season.

Santiago was the team’s most well known player, and his Hispanic heritage made him an instant hit in with the fans and city of Miami.  Benito became an ambassador of the game in South Florida and he still makes periodic appearances associated with the team.

Santiago was a 5-time All-star, a 4-time Silver Slugger trophy winner, and the winner of three Gold Glove awards.  He also won the Rookie of the Year Award as a member of the San Diego Padres during the 1987 baseball season.

Happy Birthday Benito!!!

Reader John Sends Over Three Cards For My Chase To 1,000 Unique Andre Dawson Cards!!!

Reader John Sends Over Three Cards For My Chase To 1,000 Unique Andre Dawson Cards!!!

A few weeks ago, I posted a story about how I had completely forgotten to go after any team cards in which Andre Dawson was a part of for my player collection.

Well, almost immediately after that post was published, a loyal ’30-YOC’ reader, John, offered up a few cards to help my cause.

And those cards are now home with me.

And just like that, I have three more great additions to the collection that honors my favorite player.
