2012 Topps ‘Timeless Talents’ Featuring Frank Robinson & Jose Bautista

2012 Topps ‘Timeless Talents’ Featuring Frank Robinson & Jose Bautista

I only like 50% of this baseball card; I find the other 50% to be an insult.

Topps usually does a pretty solid job of matching up the players on these ‘Duo’ cards.

But this one is way, way off.

Frank Robinson has one of the most complete and impressive offensive resumes in the history of the sport.  There are very few players in major league history that could match Robinson’s tally.  And in today’s game, there is less than a handful with the potential to do so.

But, Jose Bautista is not one of them.  Not even close.

Sure, Bautista is a 2-time Home Run Champ.  And yes, he has hit more than 100 home runs in the last three seasons, but that is all that he offers.

Bautista’s season in 2011 was impressive, incredible even, but compared to Frank Robinson’s numbers, it was just another solid campaign…

Can you guess which 50% of this card I like???

  1. Brian, Had the same reaction as you to this card. Would have loved this card if they would have put either Matt Kemp or Adam Jones on the card instead. I think both of those players are more likely to have a Robinson-esque careers than Bautista will. Also Robinson played for the Dodgers and the Orioles, so that would have just added another connection. I guess you could also put Votto and Pujols on the card as well for that matter.
