1996 Score Select Florida Marlins Team Set

1996 Score Select Florida Marlins Team Set

I scooped up this set for just $1.00 on Ebay a few weeks ago.

It’s kind of funny, but while issued just one season before the Marlins’ 1997 World Series run, this set does not remind me of that championship squad…

Have a look at the set:

This set reminds me of how unreal the off-season between the 1996 and 1997 seasons was for the Marlins – Devon, Bonilla, Livan, Rentaria, Counsell – WHOA!

Reggie Jackson 2011 Topps Lineage – Base & Platinum

Reggie Jackson 2011 Topps Lineage – Base & Platinum

Well, I now have two of the three cards that feature Reggie Jackson from the 2011 Topps Lineage set.

Here are the base card and the Platinum Anniversary parallel version:

Now I just need the Diamond Anniversary issue.

And the 1975 mini too…

Joe Morgan 2012 Topps Archives – 1973 Topps Design

Joe Morgan 2012 Topps Archives – 1973 Topps Design

Archives did it again.  They brought me right back to the period of baseball that I love.

This card of Joe Morgan is awesome.¬† It features the 1973 Topps baseball design, which was Morgan’s second card in a Reds uniform.

Morgan was about to go on a tear across the National League.  We saw glimpses of what was to come in 1973 with his 116 runs scored, 35 doubles, 26 home runs, and 67 steals.

The next three seasons would become legend – and it could be easily argued that from 1974 through 1976 there was no better player in the major leagues than Joe Leonard Morgan!!

Jim Palmer 2006 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts ‘When It Was A Game’ – Silver

Jim Palmer 2006 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts ‘When It Was A Game’ – Silver

I recently scooped up a very large stack of modern Jim Palmer baseball cards on www.checkoutmycards.com.  And while I may have had to pay a little more for shipping than what I would have liked, I am not complaining about bringing home close to 30 new Palmer cards for my collection.

Yes, I said 30!!!

This card is from the 2006 Upper Deck SP Legendary set titled ‘When It Was A Game’.¬† This set features several parallel versions of the same card, including relics.¬† This is the Silver version of the base card.¬† The card is serial numbered as 194/550.¬† And it looks fantastic!

Have a look:

Gotta love the old Yankee Stadium in the background too – those arches are unmistakable.

Alan Trammell 1990 Score – Trammell Takes A Mean Cut!!!

Alan Trammell 1990 Score РTrammell Takes A Mean Cut!!

Wow, just look at the energy and force that Trammell has put into this swing.

I am not sure that he made contact, but if so, he hit the ball very, very hard!!!

Great work by the photographer on this one.  And excellent image selection by Score!!!

Reader Gerad Sends Over Some Great Vintage Beauties From The 1960s & 1970s

Reader Gerad Sends Over Some Great Vintage Beauties From The 1960s & 1970s

Holy Cow, talk about some vintage goodies!!

I recently received a very generous package from one of the loyal readers of ’30-YOC’.¬† Gerad really hooked me up this time – 6 pieces of beautiful,¬†vintage cardboard.

Let’s get right into it, shall we?

On to the cards!!!

Card #1 Р1964 Topps All-Star Vets w/Nellie Fox & Harmon Killebrew

Card #2 – 1968 Topps, ’67 Batting Leaders w/Yastrzemski, Robinson, and Kaline

Card #3 – 1970 Topps, ’69 American League Batting Leaders w/Carew, Smith, and Oliva

Card #4 – 1970 Topps Willie McCovey

Card #5 – 1971 Topps Jim ‘Catfish’ Hunter

Card #6 – 1972 Topps Frank Robinson

Man, I don’t even know what to say.¬† Simply, great, great stuff!!

  • The card from the 1970 Topps that features Rod Carew¬†fills a huge hole in my Carew PC.
  • And the base cards of McCovey and Robinson from the 1970 and 1972 Topps sets are simply awesome.
  • And then there is the ‘Catfish’ Hunter card – WHEW!!¬† Gerad and I talk a lot through email, and we regularly discuss baseball dynasties.¬† Hunter is part of one of my favorites¬†– the A’s teams from the ’71,’72, and ’73 seasons.
  • That card from the 1964 Topps set that features Fox and Killebrew instantly becomes one of the oldest cards in my collection.

A huge ‘Thank You’ goes out to Gerad.¬† Thank you for the sending over a true ‘Blast From The Past’!!!
