Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – The Start To My 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘MOONSHOTS’ Subset

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – The Start To My 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘MOONSHOTS’ Subset

The 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen subset tagged as ‘Moonshots’ is one that I have kept my eye on since its release last year.

The set has been on my ‘potential subsets’ list to collect and I had every plan of making that a reality.

Well, I was able to rescue eight cards from that set from the ten-cent bargain bins.

So, for just eighty cents, I officially got my start!!!

Here are the eight that I pulled:

SHOW 7A

SHOW 7B

The complete set is 20 cards deep , so I am already officially 40% done.  And this is one that I will attempt to complete this year.

If you wanted to see what the full set looks like completed, click here.  It looks great, and I cannot wait to complete it myself!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #6 – Lot Of 3 Miami Marlins Jose Reyes Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #6  – Lot Of 3 Miami Marlins Jose Reyes Cards

He’s no longer a Miami Marlin…

He’s no longer my shortstop…

He’s no longer batting 3rd for my team…

But, I still needed a few Jose Reyes cards that feature him as a Marlin.  And I was able to find three.

Have a look:

SHOW 6

I have almost all of the base cards of Reyes from 2012 that show him wearing a Marlins uniform.

It was nice to find a few inserts to help me round out that collection.

YES!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Bob Gibson, Rod Carew, and Dennis Eckersley 2012 Panini Cooperstown Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Bob Gibson, Rod Carew, and Dennis Eckersley 2012 Panini Cooperstown Cards

It was nice to find a seller with a small bin of the cards from the 2012 Panini Cooperstown set.  By the looks of the size of the stack he was attempting to sell, he must have picked up a blaster box.

After sifting through the cards, I pulled out three for myself and I paid the man $1.00.

Here are the three:

SHOW 5

You can’t go wrong with any of these guys – Bob Gibson, Dennis Eckersley, and Rod Carew!!

I still have not decided if I want to collect the entire set or not.  But it was a no-brainer to grab these three as they are of players that I actively collect…

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Wade Boggs 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen – Brown Paper Frame

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Wade Boggs 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen – Brown Paper Frame

As many of the readers of ’30-YOC’ know, I am a big fan of the Gypsy Queen baseball card brand.

I have picked up a lot of singles from the 2012 set over the last year, but primarily just base cards.

This card was found in the dime bins at the card show.

It is the ‘Brown Paper Frame’ card of Hall of Famer, Wade Boggs!!!

SHOW 4

The scan is a little rough on this one, but trust me when I tell you that this card looks great in person!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #3 – Ozzie Smith 2011 Topps ’60 Years Of Topps’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #3 – Ozzie Smith 2011 Topps ’60 Years Of Topps’

While fairly modern, I have never seen this card before finding it in a bargain bin at the card show.

Yes, I have been missing out all this time…

This card is fantastic.

Have a look:

SHOW 3

What a great image!!  And I love those old Padres uniforms!!

The card celebrates the top base stealing seasons in San Diego Padres history.  Smith is in 4th place on the list with the 57 steals he recorded in 1980.

Amazingly, the great Tony Gwynn is in 5th with his 56 steals in 1987!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Roger Clemens 2006 Topps ‘Rookie Of The Week’ – 1985 Topps Design

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Roger Clemens 2006 Topps ‘Rookie Of The Week’ – 1985 Topps Design

There was no way that I was going to let this one escape me.  I am a huge fan of the 1985 Topps set, and I have picked up some great re-prints featuring that design over the last few years.

This card of Roger Clemens comes from the 2006 Topps ‘Rookie Of The Week’ set.

Have a look:

SHOW 2

If you ask me, the image used on this one is better than the original.  And while this one is very sweet, it cannot replace the original that I already have in my collection.

But it sure does accompany it very well…

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Lot Of 4 Modern Stan Musial Baseball Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Lot Of 4 Modern Stan Musial Baseball Cards

I have a very basic approach when I hit the bargain bins at the card show.

‘Take it all in, and pull what you like’.

Now, it is very easy to do that when each card in the bargain bin is selling for just a dime per card.  If this was a $5.00 bin, I would have a different approach altogether.

But, with the low price of just ten cents, I let my reservations stay in the background and simply pull what either looks neat or would make a nice addition to my collection.

And when I stumbled on my first card of Stan Musial in the bin, I knew right then that I would grab every card of ‘The Man’ that I found.

In total, I found four – costing me just forty cents.

SHOW 1

Of the group, my favorite is the one in the upper right, from the 2011 ’60 Years Of Topps’ set.  It is a reprint of Musial’s 1953 Topps card.

Baseball Card Show Review

Baseball Card Show Review

Another weekend has passed us by, and another baseball card show too.

This was the first show I attended since December, 2012 and taking the 1-month break served me well.  I witnessed a few new dealers, and a nice assortment of new baseball cards to sift through.

I did not have any specific goals for the show, but was very interested to see what 2013 Topps cards I could find.  Surprisingly, there was not as much as I expected – 2 guys selling singles, and 1 guy selling hobby and jumbo boxes.  I did buy a bunch of singles, but only one if for myself with the rest going to other readers of the blog that I know are collecting certain players or teams.

As for the rest of my show experience, I spent a lot of time at the bargain bins pulling out cards that make great additions to the player collections and subsets that I am working on.

And, I found a card that is on my ‘Top Ten Most Wanted Cards’ list.  I had to haggle for a better price, but I ended up buying it!  And I am very happy about that.

So, stay tuned to ’30-YOC’ all day long today as I will unveil each and every card that I purchased at the show right here.

Have a great day!!

I Couldn’t Resist, I Scooped Up Another 2013 Topps Blaster Today. Come See The Haul!!!

I Couldn’t Resist, I Scooped Up Another 2013 Topps Blaster Today. Come See The Haul!!!

In case you missed it, I bought a 2013 Topps Series One blaster on Wednesday, the official release day of the set.  You can see every card I pulled from that retail blaster here.

Ever since that box break, I have been thirsting for more…  So, when my wife announced that she was headed to Wal-Mart to grab a few things earlier this afternoon, I stated that we should make it a family event and all go.

She knew that I was either not feeling well, or up to something.

She was right!!!

I bought another blaster of 2013 Topps!

And now, I want to show off each and every card that I pulled.

Have a look at these:

As with the first blaster that I ripped through, many and most of these cards are available for trade.  I am working on building the Marlins team set so if you have any Marlins available and see something that you like, let me know.

Also, for all of you team collectors, player collectors, and set builders, please let me know if you found something in here that could help you out.   You scratch my back, and I will scratch yours!!!

Have a great night everyone.  Happy Collecting!!!
