2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ Subset – Card #15 – Willie Mays, San Francisco Giants

2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ Subset – Card #15 – Willie Mays, San Francisco Giants

I am working on this set because I find it to be the most appealing of the subsets issued by Topps in 2012.

The cards feature bold colors, great images, and a unique horizontal design.

I especially like the ‘Career Day’ theme as it pays homage to some of the greatest individual performances of baseball’s elite players.

Card #15 – Willie Mays, San Francisco Giants

The Career Day –  April 30, 1961.  On this day in 1961, Willie Mays set personal bests in home runs, RBI, and total bases for a single game.  Facing the Milwaukee Braves, Mays went 4-for-5 while connecting for 4 home runs, driving in 8 runs, and collecting 16 total bases.

Progress – 15/25

Jim Palmer 2006 Fleer Greats Of The Game – Pewter

Jim Palmer 2006 Fleer Greats Of The Game – Pewter

While it has been a little on the tiring side, I have to say that I have enjoyed going back and picking up modern cards of Jim Palmer that were released prior to me making my decision to build a super collection honoring his career.

The result?  My set of cards that features Palmer is growing in size, and the quality is solid too.

My most recent purchase is from the 2006 Fleer Greats Of The Game set.  This card is the ‘Pewter’ version of the card.

Have a look:

I have always been a big fan of this set.  I own the base, Copper, and Pewter cards of both Andre Dawson and Fergie Jenkins.  Now, I just need to complete the trio for my Palmer PC.

I still have quite a way to go, but I am really enjoying the journey to build a solid collection of cards that honors his amazing Hall of Fame career.

Can’t wait to see what comes next.

Juan Marichal 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball Card

Juan Marichal 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Baseball Card

As I continue to try to pick up cards from the Gypsy Queen set that features retired players and Hall of Famers, I am still in awe of them as I uncover them one by one.

My most recent pick-up from this set is of Hall of Famer, Juan Marichal.

The card, like most of the others, looks fantastic.  And while I would prefer to see Marichal’s famous leg-kick from his pitching motion featured in the card as well, I do like the detail that a more zoomed-in look provides.

Here is the card:

Loving the GQ brand!!!

Rollie Fingers 1973 Topps

Rollie Fingers 1973 Topps

If you look very closely at this 1973 Topps baseball card of Rollie Fingers, you will see that he has yet to fully adopt the handle-bar mustache as part of his grooming style.

The length of the mustache is starting to come in, but it is not yet ready to start being curled in the manner that we have become accustomed to over the last 30+ years.

I’ve got to check out his 1974 Topps card to track the growth…

And yes, this card is a fantastic addition to my growing collection that honors Fingers’ career.
