Eddie Murray 2011 Topps ’60 Years Of Topps’ – 1979 Topps Design

Eddie Murray 2011 Topps ’60 Years Of Topps’ – 1979 Topps Design

Now this is more like it!!

A fantastic reprint of one of my favorite cards of Hall of Famer, Eddie Murray.

The card comes from the 2011 Topps ’60 Years Of Topps’ set and takes us back to 1979.

1979 – when fashion was hot, when Afros were grand, when sideburns ruled, and when the Baltimore Orioles sported a fantastic logo!!!

Lou Brock 2001 Fleer Greats – FAIL!!!

Lou Brock 2001 Fleer Greats

I always enjoy a good ‘on deck circle’ baseball card.  But this one just doesn’t do it for me…

The 2001 Fleer Greats set is known for its dramatic Black & White images.  That is part of what makes the set a noteworthy one that still gets collectors excited about it more than a decade after its release.

But not every card can work with this theme.

And I think that I have found one:

VINTAGE BROCK GOTG

Lou Brock absolutely belongs in a set tagged as ‘Greats’.  But the image selected is so far from that…

NEXT!

Happy Birthday Alan Trammell!!!

Happy Birthday Alan Trammell!!!

Alan Trammell turns 54 years old today.

A very accomplished and undervalued player during his career and afterwards, there is not much that Alan Trammell did not accomplish during his playing days as a member of the Detroit Tigers.

A solid defender, Trammell was part of one of the most successful and longest running double-play tandems with Lou Whitaker.  He won 4 Gold Glove awards due to his performance at shortstop.

And way before shortstop became an offensive player’s position, Trammell put up some nice numbers.  His career batting average of .285 is coupled with 2,365 hits, 1,231 runs scored, 185 homers, and 236 stolen bases.

Trammell is a 6-time All-star, 3-time Silver Slugger winner, and was the MVP of the 1984 World Series.

Happy Birthday Mr. Trammell!!!

I Was Going To Wait To Debut The Next Round Of Subsets I Am Collecting, But I Don’t Feel Like Waiting…

I Was Going To Wait To Debut The Next Round Of Subsets I Am Collecting, But I Don’t Feel Like Waiting…

As the title suggests, I am ready to jump in and starting putting together a few more subsets.  They come from various releases from 2012, and I want to start working on them now while the cards can still be found pretty easily.

As you know, I am already building the 2012 Topps ‘Career Day’ and ‘Mound Dominance’ sets.  And while I prefer to take on just a few of these kinds of projects at a time, I am ready to start these next three right now; especially since I am sure that 2013 will offer me more that I will want to put together too…

So, here are the three subsets I am going to start piecing together:

2012 Topps Archives ‘1977 Cloth Stickers’:

2012 Topps Archives ‘Deckle Edge’:

2012 Topps Gypsy Queen ‘Moonshots’:

This is going to be a lot of fun!!  Each of these subsets look great, and the two from the 2012 Topps Archives set take us right back to baseball card collecting from the past.

It is now time for me to build the checklists and go through the cards that I own with the hopes of possibly having a few in my collection that can fill voids on the new checklists.

Wish me luck!  And if you have any cards from these subsets that you don’t need, send me a note.  Maybe we can work out a trade.

Thanks!
