Hank Aaron 2000 Topps Commemorative Set – Card #21 – 1974 Topps Design

Hank Aaron 2000 Topps Commemorative Set – Card #21 – 1974 Topps Design

This is the third card that I have obtained for this set since officially declaring that I wanted to build the full set as one of my 2013 collecting goals.

This is the 21st card in the set, a re-print of Aaron’s 1974 Topps baseball card:

The 1974 baseball season was Hank Aaron’s final season as a member of the Braves.  With the team since he was 20-years old, Hank Aaron’s last season with Atlanta came when he was forty.  Aaron was still able to launch 20 home runs and drive in 69 runs during the 1974 baseball season.  He only played in 112 during that campaign, but Aaron was still a key contributor with 91 hits, 47 runs scored, and only 29 strikeouts in 382 plate appearances.

Lou Brock 2012 Panini Cooperstown – ‘High Praise’

Now that I have obtained most, if not all, of the base cards from the 2012 Panini Cooperstown set, it is time for me to go after some of the great subsets that are also from this release.

This card of Lou Brock came to me via a trade:

The ‘High Praise’ theme is pretty neat.

The quote on the front of this card is courtesy of Larry Bowa.  It states, ‘Everyone in the park know he’s going to run and he makes it anyway’.

Pretty high praise from a peer – I LOVE IT!!!

Ian Kinsler 2006 Topps Turkey Red – ROOKIE CARD!!!

Ian Kinsler 2006 Topps Turkey Red – ROOKIE CARD!!!

I am very interested to see how Ian Kinsler plays during the upcoming 2013 baseball season.

Hopefully his ankle is ready for the demands of a 162-game season.  And with a changed offensive line-up, I am eager to see how the Rangers utilize his skills as he is one player that can fill quite a few roles for their team.

Kinsler can supply power, he can make contact, he can run, and he can get on base.  He can bat in the 1,2,3,6,7,8,9 spots in a line-up.

I cannot wait to see how Texas utilizes him in 2013.  And I also cannot wait to see how he responds!!

Go Get ‘Em Ian!!!

Mike Schmidt 1981 Donruss – Lots of Maroon!!!

Mike Schmidt 1981 Donruss

Wow, that is a lot of Maroon!!!

I had to break out the old ’30-YOC Tool’ that allows me to measure the square inches of a baseball card’s surface and analyze the allotment of color.

According to the results of my analysis, 58% of this baseball card is covered by the color of Maroon.

Certainly not the highest number ever seen at ’30-YOC’, but not too far from it either…

A Facebook Promotion Brings Me A Fantastic Signed Baseball For My Collection.  Read Now!!

I am not very active on Facebook.  I primarily use it as a tool to keep up with web and sports news and to wish friends from prior times a ‘Happy Birthday’.

I also keep tabs on the hobby a bit through Facebook.  And one of the pages that I watch is MAB Celebrity Services.  MAB is always organizing and hosting shows that feature the greats from all sports.  Not only do they host the signings, but they also sell signed merchandise from prior events that they have sponsored.

Well, everyday MAB has a 24-hour sale on a single item.  And it ranges from all sports – basketball, football, wrestling, NASCAR, and of course, baseball!!

So, I check their pager regularly as you never know what can/will appear.

I had yet to make a purchase until late last week when they offered up a signed baseball that I could not turn down.

For just $29.99, I was able to bring this home:

Palmer WS Ball

How about that???

And when I tell you that the next signed baseball that I wanted to add to my Jim Palmer collection was going to include this EXACT inscription, I am not fibbing.  This is exactly what I was wanting – I am very excited to call this one mine!!!

Thank you MAB.  I cannot wait to see what you may offer next!!!
