With This Jose Reyes 2013 Topps ’72 Mini, I Have Finally Completed My Miami Marlins Base Team Set!!!

With This Jose Reyes 2013 Topps ’72 Mini, I Have Finally Completed My Miami Marlins Base Team Set!!!

Yes, it took me a lot longer than I had expected, but I finally did it.

With this 1972 mini card of Jose Reyes, I have officially collected all of the non-parallel, non-relic, and non-autograph cards of the Miami Marlins from the 2013 Topps Series 1 release.

REYES 72 MINI

For some reason, this card of Reyes eluded me, big time!!  I was never able to pull one from a pack, and none ever became a possible trade option either.  I finally found one on Ebay for just $0.99 with FREE Shipping so I scooped it up.

So, now that I have the base team set, the 1972 mini set, and the ‘Chasing The Dream’ subset all completed, it is time to start hunting down some of the colored parallel versions from the regular set.  And maybe I can sneak in a relic or auto along the way too…

Nothing nice to say about this one – just a horrible looking baseball card.  Sorry Mr. Seaver.

Paul Molitor 2003 Topps Tribute – ‘First All-Star Season’

Paul Molitor 2003 Topps Tribute – ‘First All-Star Season’

I have a small stack of these ‘First All-Star Season’ cards from the 2003 Topps Tribute set.  I like the theme a lot; very nice to see these players get recognized in this manner.

And Topps did it right – the photo selected for this subset (at least the ones I own) seem to feature images of the player during the time in which the first All-Star selection took place.

This is the card of Paul Molitor from the set:

VINTAGE MOLITOR

Molitor’s first All-Star appearance came in 1980.  He would go on to be selected for the mid-summer classic seven times during his major league career.

NICE!!!

Sparky Anderson 1983 Topps Detroit Tigers Manager Card

Sparky Anderson 1983 Topps Detroit Tigers Manager Card

Finally, a smiling Sparky Anderson manager card!!!  YES!!!

SPARKY 3

If you were to look at the managerial career of Sparky Anderson through pictures, you would think that he was a guy that never smiled or showed signs of being happy.

Thankfully, there are some fantastic stories about Sparky that have been passed on from decade to decade about the quality of man and manager that he was.  If Sparky Anderson liked you, he really liked you – just ask Morgan, Bench, and Rose.

It’s nice to see a smiling Anderson on this 1983 Detroit Tigers manager card.

As for the 1983 baseball season, the Tigers went 92-70, finishing second in their division.

A Great Trade Lands Me Five New Cards For My Nolan Ryan & Hank Aaron Commemorative Sets!!!

A Great Trade Lands Me Five New Cards For My Nolan Ryan & Hank Aaron Commemorative Sets!!!

I had been having a bit of an issue adding cards to my 1999 Topps Nolan Ryan and 2000 Topps Hank Aaron commemorative sets.  The ones that I am finding are priced a bit higher than what I would like, and for the ones that I am finding that are affordable, they are no longer on my ‘Need List’.

Enter Ryan, of the blog ‘Another Orioles Blog’.

Ryan saw a post that I ran a few weeks ago in which I was offering up 2013 Topps Series One baseball cards for people who were building player collections, team sets, or the entire set.

Ryan and I exchanged a few emails and we had a deal struck.

I sent him a nice stack of cards for his 2013 Topps set, and he sent me some cards for both of these commemorative sets that I am building from scratch.

First, let me show you the Nolan Ryan cards he sent:

RYAN TRADE 1

And now, the Hank Aaron:

Five awesome cards!!  Five X’s added to my checklists.

Thanks again Ryan, your generosity is greatly appreciated!!!
