Baseball Card Show Purchase #10 – Reggie Jackson 2012 Topps ’87 Mini – IN AN ORIOLES UNIFORM!!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #10 – Reggie Jackson 2012 Topps ’87 Mini – IN AN ORIOLES UNIFORM!!!!

I have a mental list of players that I always seek out at card shows for my collection.

While sifting through bargain bin after bargain bin, if a card pops up that features one of these guys that I do not have in my collection already, I scoop it.

The players are: Dawson, Jenkins, Palmer, Morgan, Bench, Brooks and Frank Robinson, Hank Aaron, and Reggie Jackson.

And at this show, I found a Reggie!!!  A SWEET REGGIE!!!

SHOW 10

The card comes from the 2012 Topps mini set that uses the 1987 Topps baseball card design.  The unique thing about this one is that Reggie is not featured in his Orioles uniform very often.  I probably have less than 5-6 cards of Reggie wearing his Orioles uniform in my personal collection, so this one is a very welcomed addition!!!

And I have to say, he looks great in his White, Black, and Orange!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #9 – Mike Stanton 2012 Topps ‘Gold Futures’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #9 – Mike Stanton 2012 Topps ‘Gold Futures’

I’m always keeping my eyes open for cards of Mike/Giancarlo Stanton while at the card shows I attend.

There may be a more dense population of Stanton collectors in my area due to the proximity of the Marlins, but I am almost always able to rescue some cards of him from bargain bins if I search hard enough.

At Friday’s card show, I found just one.  So, I bought it.

The card comes from the 2012 Topps ‘Gold Futures’ set.  The card is kind of an in-between card: in between changes from Florida to Miami Marlins; and in between changes from Mike to Giancarlo Stanton.

Have a look:

SHOW 9

One thing is for sure – The card is Sharp!!

From the Black border with Gold frame, the card has a very nice look to it.  And I really like the action shot they used too!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #8 – Lot Of Three Jim Palmer 2013 Gypsy Queen Cards: Base, White Frame, Mini!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #8 – Lot Of Three Jim Palmer 2013 Gypsy Queen Cards: Base, White Frame, Mini!!!

I did really well with my Gypsy Queen shopping while at the card show.

And of the cards that I scored, it was Jim Palmer that I did the best with – landing three cards for my Palmer collection.

Have a look:

SHOW 8

In order from left to right, you have the base, White Frame, and mini base cards from the set.

In total, I paid $2.25 for these three cards.  On Ebay, even from the same seller, I would have paid more so I am happy with my purchases.

And my Palmer collection from the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen baseball card set is well under way!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – Ryan Braun 2012 Topps Archives ‘Cloth Sticker’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – Ryan Braun 2012 Topps Archives ‘Cloth Sticker’

I had keyed my wantlist for the subsets I am building into my notepad on my IPhone prior to the show.  I was not certain that I was going to find any of them while there, but at least I would be prepared if I did…

Well, it turns out that I found a few – 3 to be exact!!

1 of the 3 is Ryan Braun’s card from the 2012 Topps Archives ‘Cloth Sticker’ set.

Here is the card:

SHOW 7

Braun looks great on this one – and Topps did a fantastic job with these.

I needed two cards from this set to complete it, and now with this Braun card out of the way, I am 1 card away from completing the set!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #6 – Fergie Jenkins 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen

Baseball Card Show Purchase #6 – Fergie Jenkins 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen

I’m really happy that I waited to but my singles at the card show before turning to Ebay to find them.

At the show, this card cost me $0.25.  On Ebay, I would have paid at least $1.99.

As for the card, I was thrilled to find Mr. Jenkins in the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen checklist.  This is his first appearance in the set, and it gives me some big opportunities to add a nice stack of cards of Fergie to my collection.

As for the card, it is nice – but, I really wish that Topps chose an action shot of him for his GQ debut!!!

SHOW 6

Maybe next year, they will give us an action shot…

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Bob Gibson 2001 Topps American Pie ‘Decade Leaders’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Bob Gibson 2001 Topps American Pie ‘Decade Leaders’

Yeah, Baby- This one is groovy!!!

SHOW 5

Back in 2001, both Topps and Upper Deck issued sets of cards that were shout-outs to prior eras.  I’m not sure if this was planned or coincidental, but the net result was a lot of cards featuring some groovy images and fun photos.

Just check out Gibson’s sideburns and butterfly-collar on this card!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Gary Carter 2006 Topps Triple Threads ‘Hall Of Fame’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Gary Carter 2006 Topps Triple Threads ‘Hall Of Fame’

This is another card that stopped me while shuffling through bargain boxes at the show.

The card is from the 2006 Topps Triple Threads set, and it is another one that I have never seen before.

Here it is:

SHOW 4

The card features a young Carter in his home Expos uniform.  And while the background of the card contains a lot of White, it does not affect the image at all.  The shading that Topps used within the background makes Carter’s image pop.

This one is a great addition to my Gary Carter collection!!  We miss you, Mr. Carter!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #3 – Possibly The Coolest Batting Cage Card EVER!!! Courtesy Of Prince Fielder & Bowman

Baseball Card Show Purchase #3 – Possibly The Coolest Batting Cage Card EVER!!!  Courtesy Of Prince Fielder & Bowman

This card comes from the 2009 Bowman baseball card set.  And as soon as I saw it, I stopped in my tracks!!

Have a look:

SHOW 3

Rescued from a $0.10 bargain box, this card features easily the most unique ‘Batting Cage Card’ that I have ever seen.

There was no way that I was not going to buy the card.  And now I have a challenge ahead of me to seek out a better one – and that may be very, very tough to do.

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Rod Carew 2004 Playoff Prestige ‘Changing Stripes’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Rod Carew 2004 Playoff Prestige ‘Changing Stripes’

This is a pretty neat card, and I think I have another one somewhere in my collection, I’m just not sure where…

The card comes from the 2004 Playoff Prestige subset titled, ‘Changing Stripes’.

This one features Hall of Famer, Rodney Carew.

Have a look:

SHOW 2

The card acknowledges Carew going from the Twins to the Angels.

I like the look of the card, and the team logos really stand out against the black background.

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Gaincarlo Stanton & Nathan Eovaldi 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – Gaincarlo Stanton & Nathan Eovaldi 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen Cards

When arriving at the card show, the first thing that I did was a quick circle to see which dealers were already selling singles of 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen cards.  What I wanted to do was check their prices so I knew which one of them I would spend the most time with.

Two guys were offering singles for a quarter each, and the third dealer was selling them for fifty cents.

Of course, I drifted to the two guys selling them at the best price.

And of course, neither of them had any Marlins in their assortments.

So, I picked up these two cards for $1.00.

SHOW 1

These are the base cards of Giancarlo Stanton and Nathan Eovaldi.  This leaves me with just one base card to go after – Rob Brantly.

As for the team set, I think I will go after the base, Blue Frame, and mini and then call it a day.
