Jim Palmer 2003 Topps T-206 – Polar Bear Mini – Front & Back

Jim Palmer 2003 Topps T-206 – Polar Bear Mini – Front & Back

I recently bought a pretty nice sized lot of Jim Palmer baseball cards on www.checkoutmycards.com.

The lot included a bunch of modern cards that will fit perfectly into my collection – and I even scored a vintage beauty too.

This card is from the 2003 Topps T206 set.  I had already owned the base card, so this one is a very nice complement to it.  It is a mini version of the regular-sized base card – and it features the very popular ‘Polar Bear’ back.

Check it out:

Yeah baby!!!   I have seen these sell for a decent amount on Ebay over the last year or more.  I was very happy with my final buying price.

But even more happy to finally call this one ‘Mine’.

Steve Carlton 2011 Topps Diamond Anniversary ’60 Years Of Collecting’

Steve Carlton 2011 Topps Diamond Anniversary ’60 Years Of Collecting’

Wow, talk about taking it back to the ‘Old School’ – this one goes way back!!!

Have a look:

I don’t know how I missed this one in 2011 when it was released by Topps, but I am glad that I found it now.

The card front features a re-print of Carlton’s 1967 Topps baseball card – wearing the uniform of the St. Louis Cardinals!

Yep, Carlton was a Cardinal.  The first seven seasons of Carlton’s big league career were in St. Louis – and the first 77 wins of his 329 victory career came in STL.

Carlton Fisk 1989 Upper Deck

Carlton Fisk 1989 Upper Deck

The debut of the 1989 Upper Deck baseball card set left us with a lot of memories.

Today, almost 25 years after its debut, we can all still remember the foil packaging, color images on the back, and of course the Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card.

But the Griffey card from the set is not the only memorable one.  UD gave us some other solid rookie cards in their debut issue.  And some spectacular veteran baseball cards too!

This one of Carlton Fisk falls into that category.

Have a look:

Just a tad off-center, the best thing about this card is that you know what is coming next – A PLAY AT THE PLATE!!!!

Great, great photo selection by Upper Deck with this one!!!

Did You Know…

The only pitcher in the 20th century to complete a major league campaign with at least 25 victories while not pitching a shutout is Bullet Joe Bush.  In 1922, Bush had a record of 26-7, yet did not toss a single shutout.

Yessir, it is the first Friday of the month and as you are reading this I am more than likely at the May baseball card show in Dania Beach.

Since the last show, I have been going after a few projects that I am hoping I can enhance with new pick-ups at the show.

I am not going to make a lengthy list of cards I am seeking this time around, but I have a general idea of what I am hoping to take home.

The goals:

  1. Get the last card needed to complete my 2012 Topps Archives Deckle Edge set
  2. Get the last card needed to complete my 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Moonshots set
  3. Work on the colored parallel cards from the 2013 Series One Marlins team set
  4. 2013 Topps Heritage cards of Giancarlo Stanton
  5. 2103 Topps Gypsy Queen singles for my Player Collections
  6. Something OLD – I am in a vintage mood and would love to bring home a 40-year old baseball card tonight

We’ll see how it goes with these goals, but I am going in extremely optimistic that I will get some help from the dealers and their fully-loaded tables.

Check back on Monday for a full report.

Have a great weekend everyone!!
