Eddie Murray 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen

Eddie Murray 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen

Of all of the legends that I collect, Eddie Murray usually offers some of the more consistent and better looking cards.

For some reason, the image selection of Murray just stands out to me more than that of others.  Almost always featured while wearing his Orioles uniform, shots like this of Murray take me right back to my childhood when he was establishing himself as one of the most well-rounded hitters in baseball history.

My latest pick-up of Murray comes from the 2013 Topps Gypsy Queen set.

Have a look:

I told you it was nice.

And now I need to consult with the official 2013 Gypsy Queen checklist.  If this card is available with a ‘White Paper Frame’ border I am going to have to go after it.

I’ll keep you posted…

Nolan Ryan 2011 Topps Lineage – Base

Nolan Ryan 2011 Topps Lineage – Base

Man, I wish that the Lineage brand of cards was still in the Topps product line-up.

I know that it was not the most popular set among my fellow collectors and bloggers, but the set offered a very nice and clean design with large, and more often than not, great images.

This is the base card of Nolan Ryan from that set.

One of my favorite parts of the set was that the parallel versions were very sharp-looking and fun to chase down.  Each base card had a matching Diamond and Platinum version, and while not very expensive to bring home they were fun to go after.

That reminds me that I still have a few Jim Palmer needs from the set – time to go shopping!!!

Mike Schmidt 1983 Topps Super Veterans

Mike Schmidt 1983 Topps Super Veterans

When I got back into the hobby of baseball card collecting, the very first subset of cards that I put together was the 1983 Topps Super Veteran set.  It was a nice way to honor the players from my youth – and it remains my favorite subset in my collection.

As time has gone by, I have had to grab a few extras from this set for my evolving player collections.

I’ve had to do it for Fergie Jenkins, Jim Palmer, Joe Morgan, Rod Carew, Johnny Bench, and now Michael Jack Schmidt!

And trust me when I tell you that I am not complaining about this – I love this set!!!

I really wish Topps would issue another one.  It is a perfect fit for their Archives brand!!!

Happy Anniversary Al Leiter!!!

Happy Anniversary Al Leiter!!!

On this day in 1996, All Leiter threw a no-hitter for the Florida Marlins!!!

I happened to have been at this game, and it is by far the single greatest sporting event I have ever seen live in person. This game easily trumps being at the World Series, The NBA Conference Finals, and any other baseball, basketball, or wrestling event I have ever been to.

I thought it would be fun to go back and review that original post I wrote over a year ago when I told you about ‘The Greatest Baseball Game I Have Ever Been To’. And then being a bit of a risk taker, I sent the ticket stub from that game along with a baseball card and sent them to Al Leiter in hopes of getting him to sign them for me. That went pretty well too

Thanks again Mr. Leiter. And Happy Anniversary!!!

2013 Topps Series 1 Miami Marlins Team Set – The Emerald Version!!!

2013 Topps Series 1 Miami Marlins Team Set – The Emerald Version!!!

Thanks to the generosity of some great ’30-YOC’ readers and some sleuth shopping by yours truly, I have been able to piece together another Marlins team set.

And this one may be one of the more unique and challenging ones I have assembled thus far.

This team set comes from the 2013 Topps Series One set.  The cards are the Emerald Green parallel versions of the base card – and they are as Green and Shiny as any baseball card that I have ever seen!

Have a look at the completed set:

This one took me quite a long time to complete – but I have to admit that it was a lot of fun to hunt down.

I have a little bit of organizing to do – but I am hoping that I can complete a few more of the colored parallel sets from this year’s Topps set.

I am certainly up to the challenge!!!
