Reggie Jackson 2011 Topps Triple Threads – SWEET!!!

Reggie Jackson 2011 Topps Triple Threads – SWEET!!!

I need to go find the expected release date of the 2013 release because I really like the Triple Threads set.

The cards are always crisp and clean, and in my opinion the images being selected for this brand are getting better with each passing issue.

This card is from the 2011 set and it features a very young Reginald Martinez Jackson from his first stint with the Oakland Athletics.  Reggie wore the jersey number 9 back then, and I truly appreciate Topps celebrating the early years of Reggie’s career.

This one is serial numbered as 428/625 and is known as the Sepia version.  The coloring of this Sepia version is especially nice with that old A’s uniform.

Have a look:

Keith Hernandez 1987 Topps

Keith Hernandez 1987 Topps

Coming off of the 1986 baseball season and a World Series championship with the Mets, Keith Hernandez had a lot to smile about at the start of the 1987 baseball season.

Sadly, the happiness did not last long as the Mets would not live up to their championship winning ways and in-fighting on the squad began.

As a kid growing up in the 1980’s, the media coverage of daily non-field events was rare and nothing close to how things are covered in today’s social-media-first world.  But I do recall reading and hearing about a fight between Hernandez and Strawberry.  There were no pictures, there was no sound, and the story passed rather quickly.  If that happened today, we would have pictures, we would have sound, and we would discuss it for a week.

1965 HEADLINE: Orioles’ Jim Palmer Wins 1st Major League Game And Connects For Home Run

1965 HEADLINE: Orioles’ Jim Palmer Wins 1st Major League Game And Connects For Home Run

On this day in 1965, the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees battled in front of 25,000+ fans in Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium.

Pitching in relief, a 19-year old Jim Palmer was making just his seventh appearance in a major league game.

He threw four innings of relief for the Orioles and the team supported him by scoring five runs and taking the lead against the Yankees.  Palmer also hit a 2-run home run in the game, off of Yankees’ pitcher Jim Bouton.

The O’s held on for the win, and Palmer secured the first victory of his major league career.

Palmer’s stat line looked like this:

Mound: 3.2 inning pitched, 2 hits allowed, 1 earned run, 4 walks and 1 strikeout
Plate: 1-for-1 with a 2-run home run

Happy Anniversary Mr. Palmer!!!

Jim Palmer

Happy Birthday Jack Morris!!!

Happy Birthday Jack Morris!!!

Jack Morris turns 58 years old today.

The winningest pitcher of the 1980’s Morris compiled a 254-186 record during his career en route to 5 All-star appearances and 7 Top 9 finishes for the Cy Young award.

Morris won 3 World Series championship titles during his career – 1984, 1991, and 1992. In ’91 he won the World Series MVP award as he led Twins to the championship capturing 2 of the team’s 4 wins.

Happy Birthday Mr. Morris.

1989 Topps Rack Pack With Andre Dawson’s Card On Top!!!

1989 Topps Rack Pack With Andre Dawson’s Card On Top!!!

This new part of my Andre Dawson collection has been a slow going…  I have been trying to haul in both sealed rack pack and cello packs from the 1980’s that feature Andre Dawson on the top.

At first I was finding a good amount of them and my collection got off to a good start.

But lately, I have been running into sellers that are still trying to sell these for what they were going for twenty years ago.  And that does not work for me or my budget.

Still, I persist.

Any my persistence landed me a 1989 Topps rack pack with Andre’s base card on top.

Have a look:.

Sorry about the horrible scan.

Dawson has three cards in the 1989 Topps set – it would be cool to be able to snag a rack pack with each of the three being featured on top.

So far, I am 1/3 of the way there!!!
