Baseball Card Show Purchase #8 – Lot Of Five 2013 Topps Archives ‘Tall Boy’ Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #8 – Lot Of Five 2013 Topps Archives ‘Tall Boy’ Cards

On the short list of cards that I told the dealer I was seeking was ‘Any Card From The Tall Boy’ subset.

I knew as soon as I saw these cards in some previews that I was going to want to go after the full set.  I love the vintage look, and I like that the checklist features from of my favorite players from the 1980’s.

He pulled five cards from the set during his box break and I swiftly offered him $2.00 for the lot.

Here is my purchase:

SHOW 8

My favorites from this lot are the Mike Greenwell and Dave Stewart cards.  It’s nice to see these two guys getting some modern-day love!!!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – Jim Palmer 2013 Topps Archives Base Card – 1990 Topps Design

Baseball Card Show Purchase #7 – Jim Palmer 2013 Topps Archives Base Card – 1990 Topps Design

At the show I did not get to dig through any cards from the newly released 2013 Topps Archives set.  And I was really looking forward to this opportunity…

Only one seller had these cards, and he kept them on a small table behind his dealer table.  I buy from him every month and he charges fair prices for what I am after.  He is the guy that I buy most of the singles I get at the shows from the new releases.  He had just opened the box at the start of the show and he was not prepared to sell off any singles until he had time to really review what he had pulled.

After a little small-talk, I told him what I was after from the set and said that I would be back later in the show to see if he could sort through what he pulled in hopes that I could get a few cards from my ‘Want List’.

Ultimately, he had one single that I was after – the Jim Palmer card that featured the 1990 Topps design.

SHOW 7

I like the card – and I really like that they used an action shot of Palmer for this one as well!

The next two purchases come from the same seller – and they are all related to the Archives release.  I had to ‘work him’ a bit to get the cards you will see coming up, but I am very happy to have been able to bring home a few 2013 Archives.

Baseball Card Show Purchase #6 – 2010 Topps ‘TCYMTO’ Yankees’ Power Hitters – Mickey Mantle & Yogi Berra

Baseball Card Show Purchase #6 – 2010 Topps ‘TCYMTO’ Yankees’ Power Hitters – Mickey Mantle & Yogi Berra

I am a little surprised that I have never seen this card before, but it definitely stopped me in my tracks when I found in a dealer’s box at the show.

Very similar to the ‘Bird Belters’ card that I love from the 1968 Topps set, this one is a classic.

SHOW 6

While not the original (that would have been issued in 1957) this card is the next best thing – a perfect reprint.

Anytime you can couple Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra on a baseball card together you are going to attract collectors.  I am pretty sure that this was a well received re-print when issued in the 2010 ‘The Cards Your Mother Threw Out’ subset in 2010.

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Hank Aaron 2003 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites ‘New All-Time Home Run King’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #5 – Hank Aaron 2003 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites ‘New All-Time Home Run King’

There was no way that I was going to pass this one up!!!  It could easily be tagged as my favorite card that I bought from the show.

This card is from the 2003 Topps All-Time Fan Favorites set of cards – and it features a fantastic image and reminder of the legend that Hank Aaron built.

I paid $1.00 for the card and I wish that I was able to find more of them as I would have scooped them all up!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Albert Pujols & Frank Robinson 2012 Topps “Prime 9 – Home Run Legends”

Baseball Card Show Purchase #4 – Albert Pujols & Frank Robinson 2012 Topps “Prime 9 – Home Run Legends”

This is definitely a set that I want to go after in time.  I was able to rescue 2 cards from the set in the $1.00 bargain bins (paying $0.50 for each) I found at the show.

These cards come from some kind of redemption set that Topps issued in 2012.  The set consists of just 9 cards and I have yet to find the official checklist but I will actively seek it out now.

The cards feature a super-high-gloss finish and a really neat theme of ‘Prime 9 – Home Run Legends’.

Check out the score:

SHOW 4

I am pretty certain that I have the Reggie Jackson card from this set too.  I’ll have to double-check that…

Baseball Card Show Purchase #3 – Dave Winfield 2001 Fleer ‘Greats Of The Game’

Baseball Card Show Purchase #3 – Dave Winfield 2001 Fleer ‘Greats Of The Game’

I pulled this card from a ‘5 For $1.00’ box.  The card jumped out at me and I really like the look and feel of the Fleer GOTG design.

I also like the added shadow in the background as it makes the image of Winfield appear to leap from the card’s surface.

Check it out:

SHOW 3

NICE!

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Lot Of 3 Prince Fielder Rookie Cards

Baseball Card Show Purchase #2 – Lot Of 3 Prince Fielder Rookie Cards

One of my favorite dealers brought his dollar boxes to this show this time.  He offers everything contained within at half-price, and I probably spent more time sifting through these boxes than I did at any other dealer set-up.

I pulled some pretty solid stuff, and I will show it off throughout the day for you.

In the mix, I pulled three Prince Fielder rookie cards.  I had not been seeking them out specifically, but I was not going to pass them up either.

SHOW 2

Personally, I find Fielder to be one of the most fun guys to cheer for in baseball.  His obvious joy of playing the game meshed with supreme talent has resulted in making Prince a superstar and a ’30-YOC Favorite’.

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – The Start Of My 2013 Bowman Miami Marlins Team Set

Baseball Card Show Purchase #1 – The Start Of My 2013 Bowman Miami Marlins Team Set

I was hoping that I would be able to knock out the new 2013 Bowman team set of the Miami Marlins at the show.

The set consists of just four cards, and only one card that would be considered a ‘Star Card’.

Prior to the start of the show, I had done a little Ebay homework to see how much the finished team sets were going for and that helped me establish my budget for the set.  Commonly being offered for $3-$4 on Ebay, I thought that I would be able to piece the set together for less than $1.50.

Well, it did not go according to my plan.  I only ended up seeing one of the four cards from the set at the dealer tables that I checked out.

I got the Giancarlo Stanton card for $0.25.

SHOW 1

If anyone has the other three cards that I need for this set, please let me know.  Hopefully we can work something out.

Thanks.

Baseball Card Show Review

Baseball Card Show Review

Well friends, another weekend has passed and another baseball card show has come and gone with it.

Overall, this card show was pretty well stocked and I had a good time roaming around for the 90-or-so minutes that I was there.  I was unable to find a huge assortment of what I was seeking but I did scoop up some great stuff.

So, get ready for a fun-filled day of baseball cards here at ’30-YOC’.  I will show you my entire haul of the cards that I scored.

Enjoy.

And Finally, The Date Is Set!!!

And Finally, The Date Is Set!!!

This kind of headline is most commonly used for the announcement of a wedding date, but since that date passed for me and my wife more than ten years ago, I think that I can use it again…

I am very happy to announce that after more than a month of back and forth, a date for the ‘Andre Dawson VIP Experience’ that I will be attending has been set.

The event takes place June 29 when the Marlins host the Padres at Marlins Park.

I cannot wait for this game – and now that the scheduling is complete, there is nothing left to do but try to stifle my excitement for the next four weeks until the big day arrives.

Stay tuned to ’30-YOC’ – this is going to be spectacular!!!
